Speaker: Richard Donnelly

Of all the distortions of socialism that we have to deal with probably the most obvious one is that the USSR had something to do with socialism. The failure of the USSR to deal with the problems of the working class has been portrayed as the failure of socialism. In this discussion session we hope to have a look at how this distortion became possible and how many workers have become confused about Marxism and Leninism.

Which "Lenin" and which "Marx" are we talking about? This is always something I wonder when I see titles like these.

If you want to claim that the Second International school of Revolutionary Marxism broke with Marx on some level, then that is fair enough. But any discussion on Lenin that doesn't involve the Second International dimension, is faulty from the start.

And I second the question for a video.

I think Dick Donnelly should be preceded by The legend that is

here's a reminiscence of some of his earlier work http://socialist-courier.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/past-reflections.html :D

I can almost certainly guarantee that the false charge of blanquism against Lenin will be made.
