With this thread I would like to comprise a list of the externalities of capitalism. (Externalities meaning the consequences of capitalism, that are not inherently built into the system.) We can then identify the economic causes of listed externalities.

An example would be in the relation of impoverishment to exploitation.

Externality: Impoverishment of workers
Cause: Workers exchanging their labor power for less capital/access to capital than they produce.

Externality: Environmental Degradation
Cause: Environmental well-being seen as unnecessary burden on capital

I posit that:

externality: much of the functions of the modern state.
Cause: a state is necessary for capitalism, but a lot of its modern functions and its behemoth status are byproducts of an inherently bureaucratic institution that seeks its own interests but is not as subject to market vagaries (e.g., the professional military in most countries). The capitalist state has taken on a life of its own quite independent from the chimerical "night watchman state" so eulogized.
