me and my dad just got an conversation on changing the world for better and he said:
Son dont bother yourself with changing the world, there are many idiots on this world, that only care for their self, and even if you will change their lives for better they will still hate you because you will make some small mistakes while at it.
So do you agree what my dad said,i do believe that there are many, plenty idiots on this world that will hate you even if you did a good thing for them.

Yeah, I agree there are idiots on this world. If your dad thinks we shouldn't try changing the world (I hate that term but whatever) because of that ,he probaly is one of those idiots.

your father's statement is cynical and irrelevant. We are not who we are, to please others, we seek to advance the world to the next stage of history.

I would say you don't have to bother with activism or proselytizing for revolution - changing the world, so to speak - because the world will probably change itself without these things.

"Changing the world" makes it seem so grand and altruistic. The truth is i'm actually quite selfish. I do what i do for myself and the few people that i love.

In the sense that you cannot change the world without changing yourself... I would agree. But we should still change the world, and must.
Also, "don't change the world because a lot of people only care about them selves. So only care about yourself."

Tell him that producing wealth for only a tiny fraction of it's value is the definition of altruism. Tell him that going across the world to kill people for resources that they'll never receive the benefit from is not in someones best interest.
If everyone acted in their best interests we'd have communism by next Thursday

Hi there, wow your dad is an 100% realist. According to the ultra-realism of Schopenhauer humans are naturally diabolical, while animals, pets are not torturers and evil. There is a natural tendency in all humans (right-wingers, centrists, left-wingers and non-political people) to lean toward egocentrism, attention-seeking, group-narcissism, family-egocentrism, nation-egoism. Humans thru history have been trained to only worry about their own families, except of course those suis generis humans like Lenin, Martin Luther King, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro that are mountains of love for all humans. And do not even behave like humans of this world.
But your dad is in a way right, people are not a piece of cake, people are not easy to deal with. Besides the US capitalist media and world capitalist movies, media and all that have trained people to be egocentric and evil. So trying to convert this evil capitalist world, into a socialistic world of honesty, purity and goodness will not be a piece of cake. People in the world are still too barbaric

What about the Bourgeoisie? They are acting in their best interests now. To have Communism Thursday everyone would need to do what's best for humanity and abandon the psycho-social aspect of power relations and take arms against the physical side.
Acting in best interest (with regard for the interests of others) is what's best for the Proles, yes, but that's not technically everyone.

The bourgeoisie only have power because the proletariat allow them power. The bourgeoisie are already acting in their best interests, they're well practiced at it. If the proletariat suddenly all acted in their best interests the bourgeoisie would have no power to do anything to stop them.

No,I completely and wholeheartedly disagree with him.
Here is why,
A Communist should put others interests above their personal interests,Combating Liberalism by confronting the person who cares for himself and give him the correct opinion rather than that persons old opinions.
They may criticize you for tiny mistakes but a Communist would take no heed of petty criticism propelled for personal reasons or political reasons,A Communist would help inform the masses of how selfishness is the death of true victory and is clearly counter-revolutionary.
Let us continue.
'' If our task is to cross a river, we cannot cross it without a bridge or a boat. Unless the bridge or boat problem is solved, it is idle to speak of crossing the river.''
These people who are the reason we should not revolt(or even more crudely not bother)are simply a problem which can be worked out through Propaganda,Reliance on the masses to report the activities of these counter-revolutionary persons, forced labour(You might say this is extreme but a solution it is, it would be at the peak of its use in the first 10-15 years, the problem would die out),Public Humiliation and The Cultural Revolution.
I hope I have satisfied your inquires regarding this problem.
Aaron.

Apathy is the worst thing ever. I'd rather listen to a right-winger talk about how awesome capitalism is, than listen to some defeatist, apathetic, nonsense designed to demoralize you into submission and inaction.

No the worst is by far the ''I don't care'' people
The one's who can't formulate an opinion.

Yeah, I'll admit the world has a lot of idiots. Doesn't mean they can't be educated enough for them to form an opinion that isn't just capitalist brainwashing though.
The whole "well it just doesn't work because people are bad" mentality is something that angers me like no other. I'd rather what do ВАЛТЕР (http://www.revleft.com/vb/member.php?u=39442) said than listen to that lazy rubbish.

No, it's not true. If by idiot you mean someone who is contrary to his own interest even after you have improved his situation, i would not call this person an idiot but a social-fascist, trotskyist, nazi.... Gulag.

So do you agree what my dad said,i do believe that there are many, plenty idiots on this world that will hate you even if you did a good thing for them.
The problem with your father's view is that it doesn't only preclude political activism, it precludes any relevant action: don't discover the cure of AIDS because there are idiots around there that will still hate you, don't compose a beautiful symphony, don't write an outstanding book, etc, etc, because some idiots will always find some flaw at your work (and, what is worse, some of them will be right, there will be some flaw in what you did). So your father's argument is not merely an argument for political apathy, it is an argument for overall mediocrity.
So, unless you want to be mediocre, don't follow the advice.

So what if there are a lot of idiots and self- centered people in this world? That doesn´t mean capitalism works any better? If communism relied on everyone being perfectly rational and altruistic it would be irrelevant and best forgotten about.
