So, what do you all think of the new HBO series The Newsroom?
I think it's good, not great, but it has great potential. It's also good to have that kind of rhetoric on prime time American television.

I don't have a TV. Well, I actually do have one but I don't have cable or antenna so I only watch movies on DVD or VHS.

My favorite part is all the discrete jokes about fox news and other "news" organizations that have ruined journalistic integrity... It's a pretty good series but sometimes I've noticed the dialog to be a little preachy and not really the way people talk in real life but thats pretty minor considering how funny and thought provoking it is.
My brother thinks it leans a bit to the left, maybe it does and maybe it doesn't what do you guys think?

I've watched the first two episodes, not sure if I can be arsed with more. I also definitely noticed that the dialogue wasn't great; it was like every character had the same 'voice' and ability to quick-fire snappy lines at the same rate. Some of the writing was just cringe-worthy and unnatural and the relationships and personal development just seems hamfisted at best.
Overall it seemed like almost a reversal of Network with the crazed news anchor fighting for his integrity instead of slowly falling into the den of corruption. However this makes it lose its brilliance because instead of being the mad prophet waving his 'the end of the world is nigh' placard on tv for the spectacle of entertainment it seems like the news anchor is simply going to be held up as a shining beacon of 'reason', get back with the women he hasn't seen in 3 years who cheated on him and essentially express vomit-inducing ideals of liberal 'fairness' while never uttering a class conscious word in the few hours he plagues my screen in order to not lose ratings both fictional and real. The worst part was when he suggested that America used to be in wars for 'moral' reasons. Made me want to punch my laptop.
That came off far more ranting than I intended... My suggestion: download Network instead as it's a much better waste of your time and far more likely to happen in our lifetimes than some benign news reporter deciding to 'educate' the voting public to whatever standards he deigns acceptable.

The actor's performances are good especially Sam Waterston, even though the dialogue can be a bit all over the place.
A bit preachy at times, but I like the overall story so far (except for the relationship between the leads, which seems weird)
So yeah, I'll probably give the first season a go, because I really do think it has potential.
