Hello,
I'm returning to the board after a rather long absence after my banning from live chat. In July of 2009 I was banned for making sexist remarks, and I attempted to make an "appeal" and made a fool of myself; it didn't even look serious because I was bent out of shape when I had no right to be, and I referred to an ex-member who was responsible for my banning from chat as a "feminazi," making myself look like an unabashed sexist who was out of sorts for being dealt with appropriately. At the time I hadn't realized that "feminazi" was a long-established sexist slur that was coined by Rush Limbaugh, and thought I was being clever and coining it myself as a pejorative for overzealous female chauvinists masquerading as feminists, giving sincere and commendable feminists a bad name.
That is no excuse, of course; I realize that I was totally in error, and what I said and did was totally indefensible, and I'm finally returning after all this time to make a sincere, formal apology and attempt to demonstrate that I'm not in fact a sexist, and wasn't purposefully using sexist slurs in a deliberately sexist fashion. I would like to make clear that what I said and did was totally out of order, and that I am not attempting to rationalize or justify it by saying so in any way. I would like to request a review of my history and my account, and to know what I can do to make up for my deficits, and to express that I'm willing to apologize to the member I slurred against, if this person is still present here, and make other reparations for my transgressions.
Very honestly, I do not think I will be participating here very much, as I lost interest after that event, but I will do what is necessary to make things right, and I will make an appearance every now and then. I am indeed very sorry for being a crass jackass and employing sexist language here or anywhere, however. I hope it will be forgiven.
Thank you,
Angus Mor MacDonall
P.S.: I did not know where I should have posted this thread, and I'm not sure if this was the appropriate subforum. If an admin would kindly move this thread to its proper place where my situation can be properly evaluated by the RevLeft administration, it would be very much appreciated, thank you. If it can be handled appropriately as is, then fine.

You're hedging here. Were you in the wrong then, or weren't you? Are you sorry now, or aren't you?
A link would be nice, so we can review your crimes.

And don't be so harsh on yourself- it is quite possible you've come up with a couple of gems that Rush hasn't even thought of yet. Like maybe something clever about 'reverse racism'. If you dig through your files, you might be able to find something that Rush will like well enough to use on the air. And who knows? He might just cut you a check. Don't think of this as a monumental embarrassment. Think of it as the start of a lovely career.

I don't know you, but I have to agree with this. Your post comes off like one of those jerk-guy statements. "I'm sorry you forced me to cheat on you by being so cold."
If you are truly sorry, you have own up for the thing you want to apologize for.

Hey, c´mon now...
He said he was sorry and is trying to make amends.
As you said yourself:

"Give us all the juicy details, all the gossip!" :p
Most of the general population seems to have forgotten about your crimes or you entirely...but ultimately it's up to our admin/mod overlords to decide...and they have an elephantine memory and hold grudges
Hello,
, and thought I was being clever and coining it myself as a pejorative for overzealous female chauvinists masquerading as feminists, giving sincere and commendable feminists a bad name.

A search for 'feminazi' yields 37 threads.

I did that search too. And you know what I noticed? The older the thread is, the larger the percentage of the people posting on it have been banned. Just what is the average lifespan of a member on this forum?

He said he was banned from live chat not the forum. If he was banned from the forum he wouldn't be able to use this account to post this apology.

For you? Apparently not long.
But back to the OP, who banned you and for what?

I understand the obvious; it can only appear as though I am feigning ignorance, but it's the truth, and I don't care what anyone thinks. However, whether I was aware of it or not doesn't make it any less reprehensible. I am fully apologetic for using an indefensible phrase which cannot be used in a benign way.
But thank you for that bit of unwarranted arrogance, Comrade Trollface.
"You're hedging here. Were you in the wrong then, or weren't you? Are you sorry now, or aren't you?"
I'm not attempting to muddle the issue by asserting my ignorance of the origin and nature of the term at the time. I'm not refusing to accept guilt, and thus refusing to apologize for making sexist statements. I'm fully apologetic, and I accept the sexist implications of my statements and the consequences of my actions; I was indeed in the wrong.

I would also like to make clear that what you're rolling your eyes at was my thinking at the time, but I now recognize that it would be deluded to imagine one can rightly slander "overzealous female chauvinists masquerading as feminists" without merely slandering "commendable feminists" and feminism as a movement. I realize now that it was a mistake to attempt to elaborate it in those terms in attempting to approach the subject again and apologize properly, at least without explaining clearly that this is no longer my thought process. I've matured a bit since then, and I was immature and indefensible at that time.

Here is the thread I started to "apologize:"
http://www.revleft.com/vb/banned-sexism-t113272/index.html?p=1494860#post1494860
I would like to preface, as I stated earlier, that I made remarks in live chat that were irrevocably sexist, which had resulted in my banning from the chat, and I am in no way attempting to equivocate or water down that fact; I had engaged in blatant sexism, which is how I got in the position I'm in now, and for that I am fully apologetic. Module gives a general synopsis of what happened in the thread, and while it's not a complete picture, it is mostly complete, and correct. The only thing I dispute is having any prior knowledge of the phrase "feminazi," a phrase I did not use in chat, and the nature of its true origins.
I am ashamed of my actions, and I truly wish I could take back the use of any of the language described therein. As I attempted to explain in that thread, Module had only recently changed her handle from Desrumeaux, as I knew her originally, to what it is now (Module), and I was ignorant of her identity and gender, and had presumed her to be male. I had said crass, sexist things that I would not have meant seriously, or said to a woman, let alone her, at the time. Again, this is, however, no excuse, and I now see that sexism, sexist jokes, and sexist remarks are just as damaging, bigoted, and inexcusable no matter the gender of the person or persons being addressed, a lesson I learned the hard and painful way, and I now avoid speaking in such a manner altogether.
When all is said and done, it doesn't matter whether or not I was ignorant of these things, or who was being addressed, and I seek not to hide behind the facts; only to state it for the record, for whatever it's worth. It might be deemed important information in dealing with my case, so I state it so. I was most certainly ignorant in at least one sense, likely more than one, and for that I apologize, for what made it truly ignorant, and truly reprehensible, was that I knew better than to act that way in public at the time, despite displaying such ignorance.
I was wrong, I took the wrong attitude in attempting to address it, and I made myself look like a sexist tool by using the phrase "feminazi" in that thread, which I wouldn't have knowing what I learned immediately after the fact. I can't take it back, as much as I wish I could, and I take full responsibility and own up to my immature and bigoted actions. I am, indeed, deeply, and unequivocally sorry for what I did. I hope to display better behavior here in the future, and demonstrate that I've grown quite a bit.

Ironically, the guy posting and another one liking it have now both been banned. This bann-mania on revleft is incredibly excessive. Oops, I hope I didn't say anything ban-worthy.

Wtf, comrades? A guy comes back apologising and it's a race to crucify him again? We also gonna do that one day with reformed capitalists who sincerely ask to be forgiven and want to be good members of a communist society?
This is why certain leftists harm rather than help the cause.

and that is some assholish responses.
Don't worry about it dude, we've all had our bad days and worse reactions.
Mods ban too much on this forum. It makes me uneasy. I got threatened with a ban because I sympathise with social democracy, despite being an anarchist. I also got called a chauvanist and sexist by a mod for making a penis joke, despite being a third wave feminist. Because penis jokes now repress women:rolleyes:

That's all well and good, but I still have an infraction, and I've been permabanned from the chat. If I'm forgiven, can something be done about this? If not, then what have I got to do to reverse them?
