View Full Version : PFA Footballers strike

For all people not familiar with the PFA, they are the footballers union in the UK. This is a group that do some very good work such as retraining failed footballers and helping pay for treatment for servere injuries. At the moment they and they players have decided by ballot to go on strike to try and get 5% of all television revenue for games.

But I think that their strike is unjustified, what grounds do they have? All players no matter their wage or league that they play in pay £75 a year. This is one of the cheapest unions to be a member of. That means that Joe Bloggs who earns £100 a week or David Beckham who gets £90,000 a week both play the same. If they care about it so much why don't they have membership fees by wage?

Also the union last year had enough money to buy a Lourie (don't know the spelling, but it's a really expensive painting). Is that the actions of a union that desperately needs cash, no!

Also who will it be who suffers the most, the people who have spent their hard earned cash to pay the players and support the team.

What do you all think?

The football players union is a typical example of modern unions - they are capitalistic coalitions of workers who seek for their own greedy selfish gain, and care nothing for rights issues or the furthering of gthe left wing cause in any way.

The richer football players just have no excuse for complaint, the bastards are already rich.

Unions like these are what sets the legitimiate ones back. Teachers' and nurses' unions in Canada, which actually need help, are getting a hostile attitude from the public precisely because of this. Greedy unions have engraved in the minds of the masses a picture of overpaid workers who cry foul whenever they think they can force a wage hike. This is where it's better not to have one at all, when th union harms others and has no real cause but money.

The strange thing is most football fans seem to be behind the PFA.
The players should be paying a percentage of their wage to this as £75 a year is a joke. I pay more than that for my SSP subs.
Also the top man at the PFA is on something like £300,000 a year making him the highest paid trade union leader in the country.
I can think of one way he wont consider for the PFA to get more money, take a wage cut!

For once I agree whole heartedly with Commie Bastard.

It looks like the PFA has come to an agreement,£52.6million over the next 3 years,to be used as they wish.So a few more Lowries to put on the office wall.
Changing the subject slightly,do you think Celtic can get 2 goals at Parkhead Celticsocialist?

Anything is possible, but I think Valencia will score aswell. However if Lubo has one of his good nights and gets a couple of good crosses into Larsson then no reason he shouldn`t score. If big Sutton plays then that is a big bonus for us as European defences seem to struggle aginst his physical style. His new born son is fighting for his life at the moment so hopefully he will make a full recovery.
I would probably prefer to beat Rangers on Sunday than Valencia in a fortnight. Ideally I want both!
Short answer yes/hopefully (but probably not)

I have always been puzzled by the way people will blatantly insult a person and then say things like "no offence", when it's quite obvious some offence has in fact just been passed....
the least you could do is either apologize, or not say it at all...
or, instead of ordering someone to not take insult at your offense, you could just leave them to be as insulted as they wish...

we do have some really strange social precedents, and i really do hope i have destroyed all of them within myself, though i do often fear that some remain...

the reason for calling Rangers fans huns has nothing to do with their actual nationality.More a historical support of a monarchy of German origin, and of a religion also of German origin,Protestantism. The Rangers fans call the Celtic fans Tims, because they are predominently Catholics, and generally support Irish nationalism. Both groups are,on the whole,Scots. Therefore I intended no offence to any German,in particular,Malte. In fact, having spent nearly 5 years of my life in Germany,I have a lot of respect for the people, culture and country.
Also, this kind of insult is common to every team in the UK,and no doubt, the rest of the world.Common working class banter and rivalry.I presume(dangerous of me,I know)that you are not a great follower of football, because then you might have understood it better.Where I now live there are Red bastards,Sheepshaggers and Leicester fans(who just get laughed at).If you are offended by my little tirade, then don't get a job in a factory. It would do your head in.
I do understand your Utopian desire for peace and harmony, but I'm afraid it'll be a long time coming.

BTW,Leicester fans are usually called Vermin,'cos their nickname is "The Foxes",but no one supports them anyway.

I've never heard any insults based on such things round here for football fans...
generally a simple 'Absolute Twat' will do...
and simply because something is common does not make it excusable...

1. There is nothing on this planet that can prepare you for an Old Firm game.
2.In calling someone a TWAT,you are insulting all womens sexuality.
3.Just how are you going to persuade the masses to revolt with rhetoric and school boy attitude?
4.You obviously have intelligence, but it is useless without commonsense.
5.There are thousands of things going on in this world that are less excusable than petty footie rivalry.
6.AM I BANNED YET.

Bye I'm just popping off to the real world now!

Scargill, you cant be banned for any of the points you just made. Every one of them was spot on.

Commiebastard I have been to Anfield a few times and I can assure you there is plenty of the same type of comments and banter in Merseyside as there is in Glasgow.

What is your team Scargill?

First off, sorry for losing it,this board isn't the place to go off on one.
My team is Hull City,in case you're wondering,it's where my dad was brought up.When we came back to the UK,he would drag me to as many games as he could, always vowing never to pay good money to watch such rubbish again. He couldn't help it though,he was hooked!I'm living in the East Midlands now though,so I've only been to 2 games this season.Lost both times, and we've only lost 3 times.Think I'm a jinx.
I worked in Scotland for about 2 years a few years back, mainly in the Highlands, but my girlfriend at the time lived in lovely Govanhill. It was the year the Bhoys used Hampden Park, and it was just down the road. How could I resist. Most of my friends and workmates were green, and I am a half Irish catholic. No choice really. But when I went to an anti-nazi rally in Glasgow,I went with two friends who were true blue.Nice couple, just didn't like their team.
BTW,living where I do now I really miss a good slanging match, but I can't bring myself to be Derby or Forest. It just ain't natural.

I don't see anything wrong with what SOS said, it's just a bit of football banter. You get it at all games, a bit of friendly rivalry does no harm, just as long as it stays friendly. I wasn't meant to cause offence, and if it did SOS has apologised, but I think that it was taken out of context. I don't think that he should be banned (even if it comes to it, which I very much doubt). It should just be forgotten.

No problem SOS, just going by your signature, Unite and Fight. We shouldn't be dividing and fighting each other over such petty things.
