Any thoughts on the institution? I am unfamiliar with it directly, but I think that the commercials depict the capitalist system as endurable, and reinforce the idea that all you have to do is work hard to be economically successful.

I don't really know to much about it, so any thoughts or experiences?

Nonsense for profit education. Hate it with a passion. I want to work in higher ed. some day. But would rather be unemployed then work for a for-profit. Promotes the idea that the only thing worth learning is "job skills" and not any type of critical thinking.

There's a problem with ITT Tech that doesn't involve its portrayal of of the "capitalist system as endurable". Lot of institutions would be like this, ITT Tech isn't unique here nor does its main fault reside here.

ITT Tech takes advantage of the desire of many people to get into college but are otherwise unable to afford the opportunity. The US paints the education system as the means of social mobility- get an education, and you have more opportunities. This is probably why you are getting the vibe from their commercials about capitalism's benefits.

Unfortunately with the cost of universities increasing even in public/state colleges and financial aid becoming more difficult to come by, places like ITT Tech (it's one of many, University of Phoenix is an even larger entity) have stepped in to paint themselves as an alternative to traditional means of education. There's a predatory if not cynical strategy here that involves luring these kinds of people with false hopes and puts them through a program that can see them go into just about, if not worse, amount of debt they would incur at a normal university (public or private...) and possibly come out at an even worse position once they graduate than their peers.

ITT Tech tries to operate as a vocational education to appeal to impressions that what they are learning there will be more relevant to their future than taking up the different courses you might take at a traditional educational system. Still though, it doesn't mean everyone is successful. Even with the current issue of college graduates not coming out with much "marketable" skills out of uni (and I can relate, as I am in that position currently with my Biology degree), people coming out of ITT tech are in an even worse position since their programs are pretty much catered to specific businesses that are in a partnership with ITT tech. This means it's hard to move beyond that if they aren't "farmed" out of ITT Tech, and you try to spin out on your own to other businesses that have no connection with ITT tech. Simply put a lot of employers won't really care that you went to ITT Tech, which is all the more worse since you tend to sink a lot of money into it.

Even if you read perspectives on for-profit educational groups like ITT from mainstream views, they're pretty critical of it for being essentially a means to exploit people trying to break out of the grind of poverty thinking a "school" like ITT Tech is more accessible and affordable than a normal higher learning place. Now imagine the sheer ridiculousness of people trying to dismantle public education in favor of market forces which operate under a similar principle.

Places like ITT Tech are a consequence of the attempts to even further commodify education, which has locked out many people out of the opportunity. Instead of trying to find places that appeal to them, people now look at universities by how much it will set them back after tuition, and if they are not living with their folks, living expenses. Places like ITT Tech are trying to jump in the education money farm and exploit the desire to earn higher learning credentials.

In a word? Scam.

I was with you until "isn't public"

Private universities are legitimate schools and not related to these for-profit scam 'schools' like ITT Tech, DeVry, etc.
