This kind of sicophantic (sp?) bullshit really pisses me off.
Also, good that they can find time to debate important issues that have any real bearing on our lives...
The tower housing Big Ben is to be renamed the Elizabeth Tower in honour of the Queen, the House of Commons has confirmed.
It follows a campaign, backed by most MPs and the three main party leaders, to rename the tower in recognition of the Queen's 60 year reign.
At present the famous central London landmark is described by the Palace of Westminster as the Clock Tower.
The House of Commons authorities have now agreed the change.
Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood originally proposed the idea an early day motion which was backed by 40 MPs.
The motion called on the House of Commons Commission to consider the change "in recognition of Her Majesty's 60 years of unbroken public service on behalf of her country".
A subsequent letter of support circulated by Mr Ellwood received the backing of more than half of MPs, including David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband.
The prime minister and the Labour leader have both previously described the move as a "fitting tribute" to the Queen.

She's a figurehead. What did she do to get a clock tower named after her, besides not die? If they were naming it after Elizabeth the first, I could see why...

Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood
With a name like that, how could he belong to any other party?
The fact that "most MPs" support this shows that the two main progressive () parties are really anything but. "Elizabeth Tower" sickens me to the core.

Nobody's face, of course. Having some chump's mug on your money is idolatrous...

The cleaner at Victoria Station knows me by name because every time I go through there I end up trailing vomit across the floor...
No no I'm not that easily affected. Perhaps you should consult a doctor?

Eh... lol, kinda glad to live in a country that doesn't have royalty of any sort... :D... especially royalty that has little power and lives with incredible luxuries and so forth via the taxes payed by everybody else.

They could call it Fucknuts Tower and people would still call it Big Ben. It's refreshing though, at least their not building a 100ft golden statue to the Queen surrounded by a moat filled with the tears of the sick and homeless, obviously the recession has got in the way of normal Tory policy.

Maybe it's the hundred year gap, maybe it's the sheer number of things in this country called "Victoria", but it doesn't have the same effect as "Elizabeth". I suppose in a few years we'll probably be as used to all the Elizabeth stations and parks which will have inevitably popped up after her death.
Maybe I just don't like the name Elizabeth?

I knew Darwin was on your money, that's why I listed it first ... Worse than having some irrelevant old lady with an overinflated sense of self-importance and a delusion of divine choice?

Fuck I hate the Monarchy. It really shits me when I come across a Rule Britannia video and everyone loves the Queen.
And now they want to name Big Ben after the Queen?

In which case they could have named the tower "Plum Pudding Tower" or "Warm Beer Tower". Or, looking to the positive side, "Shakespeare Tower".
