On saying that there are a fair few users with female avatars overall.

I think my favorite avatar that depicts a male is MotherCossack's Avatar avatar. Because Aang is awesome.

Probably because most of our members are male, and avatars are a representation of a person. So a male will use a male avatar, and a female a female avatar. That makes the most sense to me.

Not necessarily. Personally, I don't feel compelled to use images that depict females as my avatar. And then there are the guys who have girls as avatars, and vice versa.
