Interesting how many on the left support Chavez, but dislike Morales. Their ideas are pretty similar (apparently), so anyone have any idea why this is?

As for the police, I wonder whether the allegations of a coup are true or just speculation.

Good question! A police "strike" is not that different from a right wing military coup, something the reactionaries tried vs. Morales before I do believe.

Or maybe they're just jacking up Morales for higher pay on the theory that he really needs them if the workers are starting to get out of hand.

As for Morales vs. Chavez, well, at least Morales isn't a former army officer.

This cop strike and the cops behaviour looks similar to what was tried in Ecuador a couple of years back given the violence and the fact that this is the police in the streets. It failed in Ecuador and it will fail against Evo morales if it is a coup attempt of some sort. Then again it could be genuine but i detect the insidious hand of the USA behind this.

I think a lot of it has to do with his anti-imperialist stance. There is a notion with a noticeable number of leftist who have the idea that if a country or leader opposes western imperialism than it should be supported.
