Is there anyone who could tell us if there is still an active left-wing IRA faction?
I know that there are still some NI nationalist IRA wings active, but as I understand they have degraded to gangsters/criminals.
The fight between protestants and catholics seems more prominent then the fight against the English rulers.
So are there still active IRA left-wing members?

Recently, some self-proclaimed IRA members shot at a gambling shop to protect workers from themselves. Which indicates they are left-wing, but rather patronising and elitist towards workers.

Sounds more like they were drunk to me:confused: Or did they also mention some kind of group they belonged to? That might change the story.

Protecting workers does not mean the IRA is left-wing.

I don't think there exists a homogeneous group called the "IRA".

The most "left"-wing split a long time ago and formed the IRSP/INLA, still hopelessly lost on the path of volunteerism but a lot more leftist than anything one would find in the ira or the gangs who still lay claim to that name..
Yes, they are all left-wing. The major armed groups today Real IRA and OnH(Oglaigh na hEirann) whose political factions are called 32CSM and Republican Network for Unity(RNU) are socialist comrades.
Too just describe them as "criminals" have been done by the british for hundreds of years, it is more complicated than that.
Here you can see from some days ago how they actually have some strong support in the working class communities, being able too do this without a fuss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fExStk37YhA
RNU(OnH) have more of a socialist tendency than 32CSM I think. Here you can read about them: http://www.republicannetwork.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=28
Republican Network for Unity is a revolutionary republican organisation, established in June 2007 - in Bodenstown, County Kildare, at the gravesite of Theobald Wolfe Tone. Our Network is committed to building a capable revolutionary republican alternative to the failed politics of constitutional nationalism and with a view to securing National Liberation & Socialism for Ireland. We hope to carry out this task in the spirit of International solidarity with other like-minded struggles, recognising that Socialism cannot exist in one country alone.
The Republican Network for Unity advocate a 32 County democratic socialist republic based on the principles of democracy, social justice and equality. RNU oppose the Dublin and Stormont parliaments as counter revolutionary bodies tasked with promoting the partition of Ireland and maintaining Irish and domestic capitalism in this country.

Thanks for the youtube link! Vert exciting to see!
But they are not all left-wing, I believe? Many have degraded to gangs and many others are simply NI nationalists. I knew there were some left-wing IRA's, but I thought they were inactive. But apparently not all. Thanks.

Do you have some proof of this gang-stuff? All I know is that the Real IRA executed their member Kieran Doherty after they found out he was selling weed.
And yes, these groups do smuggle cigarettes, alcohol, gasoline and such stuff to finance their groups. And they regularly shoot dealers in their knees or send them out from Ireland.
The criminalization agenda have always been a tactic among many by the british, its astonishing how many socialists who buy into this. You can actually visit and talk too these groups political organisations if you want too. Just visist the 32CSM or RNU, they have offices and email.
Those who are now simply nationalists are the establishment party Sinn Fein. They rejected the armed campaign.

I do not have any proof, besides the recollection of some reports about IRA wings degrading into gangs. Maybe they meant violent catholic/protestant youth gangs? I do not remember.
And thanks for the second (great) link. It is 'good' to see the conflict in Northern Ireland is not forgotten and still ongoing. For some reason, I never find links such as these.

Have the RNU made any concrete statement on economic policy? What I've seen from 32CSM have been pretty much social democracy.

The IRSP is the only revolutionary leftist party within the broader republican movement. Its armed wing, the INLA, decommissioned a couple of years ago.
