In recent years in the US there seems to have been an explosion in for profit "colleges". They primarily offer a quick and easy path to degree with promises of finding students a job immediately upon graduation. As you might suspect this is complete and utter bullshit, but as these schools invest a large sum their profits in marketing they can pull off presenting themselves as being something more than glorified diploma mills. I live in a primarily working class immigrant neighborhood where two of these types of institutions are located. They are truly soul less, taking in immigrants, single mothers, returning soldiers and even people with developmental disabilities, with the intended goal of signing them up for loans they can't afford and an education that is generally worthless. The sad part is the government of the United States allows these fuckers to take GI Bills and Federal Student loan money despite the fact they are an obvious scam. Just another mechanism American capitalism uses to prey on its working class.

The University of Maryland University College seems like a good institution. :D

Anyways...

Yeah, I don't like these for-profit colleges. Not only do they seem like scummy institutions, but I dislike what seems like a rather conservative approach -- like, you're not here to have fun and stuff like at a normal college, you're just here to get your degree and junk.
