Any thoughts on this?

I think it's fair to say that whether you'd be for or against such a war that it's been noticeable to everyone that there's been an effort with in the political circles to start a war with Iran; a war started either directly or through Israel for at least the past six years.
This article itself isn't breaking any new ground on the issue.
I find it pretty sad how Iran sabre-rattling and Israel-fetishism are pretty much unchallenged gospel in the United States. At least other countries have more than a dozen people in their parliaments who think it's bullshit.
At least...I think.

The american public is already weary of the iraq war, which only had support because of the attacks of 9/11. It would be suicide for both states to push for war with an actual superpower since Iran, Israel, and the U.S. don't by any means have enough stability internally for a war effort to work. Also what would the rest of debt ridden europe make of this? russia and china would unconditionally defend Iran from an american or NATO attack, so it would be asking for a world war to play jingoism. Iraq didn't have massive investments from any specific power.

Not Canada. :( Our government has done a lot of posturing over Iran's human rights record, while meanwhile uncritically defending Israel at every turn, and the Opposition leaders aren't really any better.

Although I agree that a war with Iran would be extremely unpopular among the American public, the question one might ask is what Americans would be willing to do to stop it. My guess is nothing. The 2003 anti-war movement was huge, and it basically accomplished nothing. I don't think there will be an actual invasion of Iran (that truly would be catastrophic), but I wouldn't rule out some sort of limited military engagement.

That's why contributing to Iran-Israel aggressions is so important. The war happens between Israel and Iran officially, and America does everything it can to support it's ally. I doubt you're going to find anything other than a small minority with in America who would be against it.
We already saw them trying to use the same tactic on Iran that we did with Iraq. Claim they have WMDs(in this case nuclear weapons) and have the UN inspectors go in as much as they want, and when Iran says no to the inspection(like Iraq did) you start shouting they have things to hide and what not and admitting their guilt, and you've already justified military action to a good percentage of the country and gotten half way there with even more.

I am certainly not surprised, nor am I in favor.

Iceland is probably the only state with some sanity in regards to all this sort of thing. They actually recognized Palestine recently. I'm planning on moving there.
Though...not sure what the anti-Iran/pro-peace proportion is in the Alžingi. Probably at least pretty even. This is the country where one somewhat-minor party is led by a pagan priest, after all. :D

War with Iran is probably the only thing that could breathe Occupy back to life, and I bet shit would be pretty confrontational given the now established history of occupations.
But, there will be no US war with Iran, the US is currently in the process of scaling back its military.

And on top of that, I remmeber reading a piece on wsws.org on the strategic documents of the American army which presuppose a drive towards the east - meaning, towards China:
O
n June 9, Aquino met with President Obama and further cemented these agreements. Obama stated that on “security and military issues, we had discussions about how we can continue to consult closely together, to engage in training together, work on a range of regional issues together—all of which is consistent with the announced pivot by the United States back to Asia, and reminding everybody that, in fact, the United States considers itself, and is, a Pacific power.” Obama’s statement makes explicit what lurks behind the rhetoric of “freedom of navigation” and assistance to the Philippines: the naked assertion of US military power in the Asia Pacific.

Ha Ha Ha! Are you kidding me? The US and west have constantly war mongered extremely blatantly over such a long time, that when war were to break out the US would be unable to win it without a nuclear armageddon humanitarian horrorshow in light of growing China and Russia supporting Iran.
Time is NOT on the side of Western Imperialism as China and Russia and the east catch up gambling for more global power. Were the US, Israel, Europe NATO etc. to attack Iran it would be an illegal war as they will never get a UN treaty to attack a peaceful nation. An illegal war would mean competing powers like China and Russia etc. would try to exploit that fact and damage western politics and standing.
Now, with this constellation, western countries' boardrooms that are already totalitarian, would have to use even more reactionary and totalitarian methods within the board room and on society. Put this necessary war time reaction of western capital rulers next to a war weary and hugely anti-capitalist sentimentary western population and you have a real revolutionary situation.
