I saw in a Rage Against the Machine video that 10% of Americas population holds 80% of the wealth. Does anyone know if thats a correct stat? cause i dont know if i remember right.

what do you think?
Bill Gates makes over a billion dollars in a little over a year, how many US citizens combined make that much?

It's more like 95% of the wealth is owned and/or controlled by 5% of the population, with a margin of error of 2 or 3%.

No doubt you read that America has 50% of the world's wealth from this passage which was written in 1948 by Robert F. Keenan. So I don't know if this is any longer true; whether the percentage has grown, diminished or stayed the same.
Policy Planning Study 23
"we have about 50% of the world's wealth, but only 6.3% of its population....In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity....To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives....We should cease to talk about vague and...unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are then hampered by idealistic slogans, the better."

Well, for one. America is the world's wealthiest country. Not just in money, but in all around material. They are also the biggest consumer, so they demand and want more. Bill Gates is an asshole. There should be a law on how much a person can make, and the rest should go towards charity or something. No more then like half a billion a year tops. Honestly, I can live a good life on 50000$ max. You can own a nice have, a nice car and have spare money for things like clothing and other little things. Also, most Americans are in debt, including Canadians too. I alone am about 5000$ in debt from a loan for a vehicule. Maybe Bill Gates should give everyone his junk change...

i read once that the UN mentioned in one of its evaluations of the worlds status that the 250 or so richest people in the world had enough money to provide food, shelter health services and basic education to the entire population of the world.
i think thats about right....
