Before Gandhi, were there Indian rebels to British occupation? I know there was Bagghat Singh who, during Gandhi's time, wanted to mobilize the Indian military, which would've resulted in less civilian casualties...
But were there any? My ancestry is routed in India, and was just wondering where all this rebellion inside me came from, lol. Most of my history's not recorded, but I'd love to find out info on some Indian rebels before Gandhi's time....

I don't know any individual names--possibly no one even bothered to record them. But there was a major Indian uprising--called a mutiny by the British--in 1857 (I think)...and it lasted more than a year.

The mutiny in 1857 is called the Sepoy Rebellion. Hindu and Muslim soliders payed by the British refused to use some kind of gun related material because it was greasy. They thought the grease derived from animal fat. the muslims thought it could be pig grease, and the hindus believed it to be cow grease. Since it is against their relgion to eat these animals they became outraged and rebeled. There is no single famous person for this incident that I know of. I believe the whole incident occured because of a rumor, there was no proof that there was an pig or cow grease used at all.

The Sepoy Rebellion spanned from 1857 to 1859, I'm unsure if it was a full two years. If I'm not mistaken that incident was on eof the main reasons as to why the East India Company's power was taken away in India and given to the British national government.

I have not studied this subject much..but i have asked many questions about this and i was told during WW2 there was an armed uprising in india. Inside of keeping indian prisoners of war, hitler sent them back to india to free themselfs from britain. Older people have told me they got pretty far in southren india.
But i cannot confirm this.

yeah Bhagat Singh led a guerilla warfare campeign against British occupation in India. He opposed Gandhi's ideology of non-violence as a means for independence. He saw the civilians dying, thousands and thousands at times. India's military was strong enough to take out the British forces in India, so he said it must be India's duty to mobilize its military...
At the age of 23, Singh was hung by British officials. Kinda sad, he was VERY young....
btw - Hitler opposed Indian rebels. He said that not only was their race inferior, but that they shouldnt challenge British occupation in India because it was the 'right' thing for their country. Hitler even mocked Gandhi in one of his speeches...I cant remember what one exactly though.

Perhaps, we should initiate a movement: Let the American soldiers go home crosses the Christmas day?

You are the one who uses the translator, correct? I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Post it and maybe someone can translate it more accurately.

Timbaly: I'm not very familiar with this period in Indian history, but I don't really understand how the Dutch East India Company and the English are connected. From what I've read, there was no aquiessance of power in that region. The British simply took it by force.
