Another penpal of the unabomber is John Zerzan, the anarcho-primitivist "philosopher." Zerzan also attended Kaczynski's trial. Derrick Jensen considers Zerzan to be the most important living "philosopher."
My reason for this brief post? I'm a red-green revolutionary who lives in the same town as Derrick Jensen and it really, really pisses me off that Zerzan's and Jensen's reactionary crap can gain some popular notice while my attempts to scientifically develop the materialist dialectic and revolutionary organizing theory are ignored, as are the new sciences of organization in which my efforts are rooted.
That this new science is completely ignored in the Sciences and Environment forum also really, really pisses me off. I'm not interested in a new cure for warts or space colonization. I'm interested in developing revolutionary organizing theory so we can colonize Earth with a realized, natural human species.
I'm not saying that I have the cure for all that ails us. I am definitely saying, though, that my approach is light years ahead of anything Jensen and Zerzan have to offer. My approach is also rooted in science and Marxism, as, ostensibly, is this forum.
Aarrghhh! I repeat: Aarrghh!!!

Zerzan is an interesting guy to listen to, despite his conclusions. Kaczynski on the other hand seemed just to be a mentally ill ranter. And of course like all the other crazies he made his home in my native Pacific Northwest.

"People have become overstressed and oversocialized."
If I understand this statement correctly, it is wrong, wrong, wrong. As a result of proletarian expropriation by capitalist industrialization people have become ALIENATED, not 'socialized'!

The socialization is only temporary. Soon, it will wither away, and the people will become communized.

actually his manifesto is very worthwhile to read, i dont agree with his primitivist conclusions but his analysis on (western) society is often spot on...
dont knock it till you tried it.

Ideas are worth more consideration than the person or persons that "originated" them.

Actually, I heard that's not so true anymore. Jensen's turned completely away from what he was saying just a couple of years ago (and in his books Endgame), and has actually criticized Zerzan on several positions and such, where he would have otherwise agreed before. I don't think Derrick Jensen is the same person he was a couple years ago. He's not any better from what I know, just doesn't have the same ideas.

All I can say, is that I don't trust a person (Jensen) who writes incessantly about the need for people to carry out illegal actions, but who then talks to the feds, and then forms an organization (Deep Green Resistance) with an individual who called the police on radicals (Lierre Keith), and in the text for that organization, advocates the formation of a whole insurgent combatant network. Meanwhile most public manifestations of the organization (DGR) include some sort of plea to vote for some new third party "environmentalist" candidate. (esp. Rocky Anderson)
I enjoyed Endgame, and I vastly prefer Jensen's writing style to Zerzan's, but at least Zerzan is consistent, and at least he doesn't talk to the cops.
