Recently I have taken up running, and no I'm not being chased, and found that the bottom of my left foot keeps bruising up. I've spent money on good shoes and run between 7 and 12 miles every other day but can't seem to get rid of this nickel sized bruise. I've taken up to 4 days off and tried doing easier runs of 5 to 6 miles but it comes back that day. What's up with that?

Ah this old chestnut again. I run a good bit as well and from what I know its not the shoes (though it could acutally be I doubt it), its either the socks (I doubt it though) or more accurately it could be the WAY you run. There is nothing you can do about it if its the way you run. Everybody runs differerntly. I ran a Marathon last year and had to apply vaseline to the inside of my thighs (near my knees) because when I run they come into contact. I met about 4 other people also doing this at the starting line before the race. Maybe for every 15 steps I take they clash once.

My only advice is to try to increase padding on this area or else try to run with different shoes just once to rule out any problem the shoes are giving you as I have gone through two pairs in the past before I got ones that suited me (I was quite heavy on the ball of my foot). Always use light socks.

By the sounds of it you are a big runner if you are doing such great distances. Definetly do a marathon in the near future. :)

Thanks! I do have Three different pairs of shoes and the pressure is on the balls of the foot. My socks are thin so I dont know. Im going to a Pediatrist next week so we'll see. I am thinking of the L.A. Marathon though. I have the stamina but my feet just kill at about the 2 hour mark. I did try on these really cool Nike's but they are like $170. I know that they will only last me about 3 months so IDK?

Good to see you're seeing a professional man. Yeah, that dont sound too good. Im not sure what kind of footwear you are talking about exactly but over here in Europe i've never seen Nike's been worn during a marathon, truely. Everyone wear's Asics. Not sure how popular they are in the US but my feet feel so comfortable in them when running. When I wear them around the house I feel like im on springs. Asics are shoes desinged specifically for running and nothing else and when I went into the store they took a video of me running over 25 meters and decided which footwear suited my style the best on the basis of the computer technology which monitored the pressure points in my foots. Amazing stuff which was worth the extra €10. I cant say i've had problems since then. If this technology is in some sports shops here then I reckon the Grand old USA must definetly have shops like this. Also i've had the same pair for a year now with minimal wear.

Do run the LA marathon. Its one of the most famous world marathons and I bet you'll do great.

Good luck comrade!

I have two pair of Saucony and a pair of Asics. The saucony's are light but the tread wears to quickly. The Asics were my first pair and are trashed. I do know of a place that is for runners only and will go there once I've seen the Doc.

maybe you need inserts in your shoes because you run with more pressure on one foot than the other?

I tried some different stuff like that and it tended to mess up my ankle. At this point I'm going to stop spending money and just see a pediatrist(Yup got that poor persons insurance, thankfully).

The most probably its due to humid inside your socks. Before wearing shoes rub your feet with a dry towel. And must use good gripping shoes. Loose shoes slide during running and cause many problems. So always wear fit and good gripping shoes.

I had terrible pains in my feet and legs from running, I bought some vibram five fingers and it has cleared it up for me so conditioning is not ruining my life any more.

If you can bare the shame of running in them then your set, they also make you run on the balls of your feet and eliminate knee pain that slamming the ground with your heel creates.

Burns your calves first few weeks, go easy Bro.
