City Settles For More Than $12 Million With Iraq War Protesters

The Chicago City Council agreed yesterday to settle two lawsuits regarding arrests made during the 2003 Iraq War protests: Plaintiffs will get more than $12 million total from the city. The city acknowledged that police arrested protesters without providing them sufficient notice, and also that some arrested were pedestrians, not protesters.

Finalizing the settlement comes two weeks after the NATO summit. No lawsuits have been filed regarding summit-related police misconduct, though attorneys working on behalf of arrested protesters made allegations to the media about police brutality.
