View Full Version : when people who don't know anything about marxism talk positively about it

alright, 'cos it usually seems to be anti-marxists who bullshit about marxism, have a gander at this:
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4351717
some crackers in there.
The history of ideas is kind of the 'point' of Marxism really.
what will rafiq say about this? :tongue_smilie:
i don't know much about the politics of thought/mind/idon'tknowwhatit'scalled but we all have a very capitalised subconscious. The first step is somehow reversing that but that's the problem with marxism innit, that doing so is pretty much impossible. I mean psychoanalysis says as much. Who we are is created when we're children, and it's very hard to reverse that, and impossible unless you have access to something like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and you WANT to change. So yeah, you can't just superimpose a sort of marxialised psychology on already capitalised individuals.
just so much...
Interestingly, even Marx hated the idea of living in a Marxist society.
interestingly, i don't think marx believed there was such thing as a "marxist society" for him to hate the idea of living in.
Also, every govt official/person in a position of power would be psychologically assessed first. If they were a psychopath/anything else was wrong with them, they got NO CHANCE. This would help loads.
i could go on. so, so, so much gold. it's actually much more frustrating than anti-marxist conservatives talking shit i think.

i've worked out that this:
Interestingly, even Marx hated the idea of living in a Marxist society.
is probably a reference to (to paraphrase) "if this is marxism then i am not a marxist". which... i mean, where to start?
i really find it funny tho, when people talk with authority about things they clearly know nothing about.
anyone make it through the whole thing?!

I couldn't make it through the whole thing. I read for about 30 seconds and wanted to tear my eyes out.

A friend of mine told me they thought that the communist manifesto was a beautiful work of art, but that it's ideas are no longer relevant. She spoke with great authority and everyone around her was very impressed. People asked her questions and she would come up with bullshit responses. It was obvious to me she hadn't actually read it, so I asked her, "So Zoey, what's a proletarian?". She got red in the face and I looked like a smart-ass.

i was once in a class discussing the communist manifesto and this girl made this absurd point about the manifesto showing how the rich are as opressed as the poor or something. straight up, i was so dismissive i think i nearly made her cry and felt like an arsehole after. but seriously...

the title says it all
D'you reckon if someone went and did a marxist revolution you'd support it? (http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4351717)

eh I think it's brilliant
they're talking about it at least I'm not going to act like some stuck up uni student and take the piss out of the uneducated workers. I ain't no leninist ;)
They may not be theoretically "right" but they are mostly in favour which cannot be negative.
And this I whole heartedly agree with
I think I'd rather live in our corrupt-as-fuck sorta democracy than anything run by a bunch of psued-y philosophy students.

huh? they are uni students - you don't actually think they're uneducated workers do you?

They sounded about 14 to me
How do you know they are Uni students?
ed miliband
6th June 2012, 23:40
or rather - the forum is very much "middle class" and well-educated. i can't say case for case that they're students, but they definitely aren't "uneducated workers"

you could try and win 'em over to the spgb but they implicitly had a dig at you guys when they described all british socialist parties as embarrassing

see my other response - i don't, but they don't seem like "uneducated workers" or 14 year olds and i'm just guessing from the demographics of that website

I would say the fact that they don't really know what they are talking about proves the point about them being educated or not ;). And their presumed social class background does not denote the fact that the vast majority of them will be workers.
But if you're right and it's more
"Who's with me Yah" than "Yeah" then fair enough :D

Yeah saw that the question is though were they talking about us or are they unaware that we exist and which is worse :p
That's the good thing about being an autonomist I guess noone can say your party is shit :)

I fucking hate it (and I mean hate to the point that my blood boils; which doesn't happen very often) when people talk about shit they have no clue about. I just don't fucking get it; if I don't know about something I will either admit so or refrain from discussing it. Why do people pretend to know about shit they've never read or dealt with on an intellectual level.

I can't believe I've read this whole thread and not one post about Sam Webb! Maybe it's that the crap that comes out of his mouth isn't Marxism at all, just the CPUSA's lame attempt at "sounding" Marxist.

I like to refer to such an activity as "a bunch of shit heads sniffing their own farts"
But, yes; I agree

Which is worse, the person talking shit about things they know nothing of or the ones who admit they don't know yet quote the "well I heard" source? People.

"Well I heard" qualifies as "sniffing their own farts"
