I may have posted this before, though:
I absolutely love the transition from this song, which deploys signs of desperation and defeatism:
eh9WayN7R-s
To a much more Radical, revolutionary version, probably a sign of his break from depression:

Paul Robeson is amazing.
Anyway, what are some other songs which are somewhat similar, i.e. Have been re invented in accordance with different times, and so on?

The only one I can think of is Sublime's Pool Shark, but the two versions were recorded close to each other. The first recording was fast and reckless, like Bradley Nowell was. It gave the impression that he understood the implications of his addiction but didn't care much. The second, acoustic, recording gave the impression of somber acceptance of his own death sentence.
Again, they were both recorded in a fairly short time frame, somewhere in the area of about 6 months to a year. He died in 1996, 2 years after this album was released, of a heroin overdose.

Lyrics:
Lyin' in my plastic bed
Thinkin' how things weren't so cool to me
My baby likes to shoot pool
I like lyin' naked in my bedroom
Tying on the dinosaur tonight
it used to be so cool to...
But now I've got the needle
And I can shake but I can't breathe
I take it away
But I want more and more
One day i'm gonna lose the war
Lyin' in my plastic bed
Thinkin' how things weren't so cool to me
My baby likes to shoot pool
I like lyin' naked in my bedroom
Tying on the dinosaur tonight
It used to be so cool
Now I've got the needle
And I can shake but I can't breathe
I take it away
But i want more and more
One day i'm gonna lose the war.

Favorite band ever. Brad had an amazing yet extremely sad life.
