does it seem that under capitalism, or at least today, there are a lot of jobs that dont need to exist?
why are they supported? is it to maintain some kind of 'middle' class to act as a buffer?
examples:
1. michelle obama used to work at some company before obama got elected, after he was elected and she left, the company didnt bother replacing her, they just got rid of the position.
2. in china there are restaurants, for example, that are always empty and at most a quarter full, yet they have 10 people 'working' there, just standing around, picking their noses or sleeping. this is true of many other places like stores, etc
3. in the financial industry, there's an army of people doing pretty pointless jobs like 'analysis' its just crunching a few numbers, whats there to gain in employing people with high salaries when there is a low return from their work?
how can companies lay off thousands of employees and still have robust business's? increasing profits and such. what was the point of employees them in the first place?
sorry, this is really all over the place, and i know these things aren't closely connected.
