View Full Version : Really stupid ways in which people in the UK are celebrating the Queens Diamond Jub.

As you all may imagine, right now in the UK you cannot go anywhere without being bombarded by reactionary views and propaganda. Some of it is just daft and badly outdated however. take my friends experience at his work place for example, when he arrived to a room full of Saint Georges flags and word "England" put up all over the place....er..has the devolution gone that far already without me knowing yet.

Go on, left or right-wing there has got to have been something about the whole jubilee that has made you laugh out right?

The fact that most of it was put off by the weather should be enough for humour.:)

I don't watch TV. My friends did not mention it, nor did anyone in my workplace. It was smooth sailing for me.

I was at work all day and the only mention I heard of it was on the telly in the canteen. Far as I can tell, nobody in Scotland could give a flying fuck if the royal family lived or died.

I actually didn't understand anything. The UK is signified by the union jack, which is supposed to represent all the home nations. Putting up only flags that represent England (the founders/rulers) is not only bigoted, its also contraflow to the notion of a UK.

Also on news TV when the interviewed alot of people at their respective parties, they described it as a celebration of being English.

Curiously Right-Wing Groups like the EDL/BNP seem to use both flags interchangeably. The connotations are clearly reactionary with both but I would obviously not say the same as the displaying of Scottish flags. The latter usually linked to the SNP.

I fail to see how waving England flags for it is any more stupid/ridiculous/unbelievable than people who're flying the Union Jack, or why it's strange that groups like the BNP might use both together, it's not like the two are mutually exclusive

We might not give a shit what they stand for, but there actually are alot of people in the UK who really believe in this whole England, Scotland, Ireland and wales in perfect unison (pmsl i know). and obviously those English nationalists are demonstrating ignorance beyond belief.

boris looked cute and completely bonkers.... for a truly bourgeois tory ....
i liked the way the queen frowned all day.....
she looked so pissed off maybe her and camilla should swap bodies.... or that would make it wierd with charles....
god.... it is all such bullshit.....they are only people....nothing remotely special.......i bet you all my worldly goods that if you chose, at random, anyone and made them king or queen and told them what to do.... they would be every bit as effective...maybe more so.....

I don't see the big deal, England is a country in the UK hence some people fly the England flag as well as the Union Jack, the two don't necessarily represent two diametrically opposed things as you seem to think they do

When people start referring to "Albion" then you will know that you have missed something.

I've not been paying attention to anything lately, TV hasn't been on in about a week or so but I still got a flyer through the door, some church idiots were holding a diamond jubilee street party... yep, nothing quite like being ruled by a bunch of wealthy, detached, hereditary dipshits living off tax money to make you feel like celebrating.

MotherCossack
4th June 2012, 22:52
bejesus.... how long is this shit gonna go on for....?
there is a gig at the palace with all the aging, crusty, wealthy, sagging, mega-unhip, cataclysmicly out of touch with reality, superstars..... like paul my-carta-money and gushy blow-low, mouldness, sloppy wailer.....

oh.... i do hope they invited that veteran of popular music...... engelbert humperdinck......

god they are really pushing the boat out in all things repulsive.... do they want us to hate their guts or what?

philip... got a chill ... ahhhh bless ..... poor pet.....
hope he gets the care he deserves!

As an outsider, this kind of nationalism seems humorous and kitschy and entertaining because I don't have to deal with right-wing idiots actually supporting this.

It's covered in the media like crazy in the States though - I don't understand how US nationalism has reincorporated British nationalism... seems like it's contradictory to fawn over the Royals when this country's origin myth is a war to free ourselves from the British crown

My parents have gone to London today to stand in the cold for hours just for a glimpse of the Queen, I think that's pretty stupid, they're not even big Royalists or anything

Anybody can please tell me what did she done for the country, it must something why people get so mad about her. Bravely, she lived at the same time that the blitz happened. Her breathing and blood-pumping and very existence gave confidence and fortitude to a nation in dire straights. While workers huddled in shelters and England burned, many a Londoner croaked through the smoke and dust: "God save the future queen; where there's an overprivilaged little girl riding a caviar-fed pony in a Castle in Scotland, there's hope"
