View Full Version : Responsibility?

Sorry for the stupid thread, again.

What do you all think our responsibility is, if any, towards each other as human beings? Do you believe that we have a responsibility to help each other, or only to protect each other? Do we do this out of altruism, or self-interest, in the sense that we would expect the same back?

It seems to me that whenever I'm talking to someone about communism who doesn't really understand it very well, we get into a discussion about welfare. Even though that isn't really the point of the argument, I feel compelled to argue about it because they say that they have no responsibility for other peoples' health, which seems somewhat callous to me, I don't know.

I'm not really arguing for anything along the lines of humanitarian aid, etc, but just to people in your community, however far that might extend for you. What are your thoughts?

Seeing as we do not act or live in a vacuum. All progress is predicated on a previous progress, no person is self sustained, then yes we are responsible to each other whether we wish to acknowledge it or not. Say for instance that you do support capitalism. Then it is in your best interest to support welfare. This keeps the system from collapsing upon itself and goods are kept moving off the shelf. If one thinks that individualism can be legislated to mean that your profits are made solely by you and therefore should be kept by you alone, then you are just delusional. We were not born adults, others cared for us. We did not single handedly build the roads that we move goods and services on, a community of workers did. All things tug and push at each other because they have no choice, all are interconnected.
