He may not be a Marxists but I'm surprised at how fast a conservative city like Alexandria could turn on the Islamists, it definately shows a growing potential for the left to start pushing forward in Egypt. What are your thoughts the Egyptian election results, the turn out and the rapidly shifting political landscape?


Clearly not limitted to the polls since the the election is still taking place under a junta.

his results were surprisingly good he come a close third ,
i guess nationalist still have a chance of taking power in Egypt again

from what ive read about him hes a nasserist? what exactly does that mean. i know vaguely of who nasser was.

but his position on the status of women seems positive.

Nasser economic positions ? nationalize big business , spare small ones . a social democratic system with an important state intervention and control of the key elements in the economy while leaving small business untouched

Free officers origins ( petty bourgeois ) won't allow them to be real socialist , this what lower middle class and workers \ peasantry alliance produce can't get any further
