I did a search for this question but nothing came up, I hope I'm not repeating anything.

I seem to have gone through my personal summer reading list quite quickly, so I'm looking for new things to read and I'd like to go through a Lenin biography, so I was hoping my revleft comrades could suggest a good one to get. Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

Edit: and/or a book on the Bolshevik party itself

I'm searching for one too!

I might order this one sometime.

Conspirator: Lenin in Exile - The making of a revolutionary. As the title suggests, it's about his 17 years of exile.

Lars T Lih has done an excellent biography of Lenin as part of the Critical Lives series: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenin-Critical-Lives-Lars-Lih/dp/1861897936

The best one by far is Robert Service's Lenin: A Biography.

The best one by far is Robert Service's Lenin: A Biography.

It's terrible and lazy, possibly one of the worst out there. It is a typical bourgeois history where Lenin obviously leads to Stalin and so forth.

I can't speak for either of the recommendation so far. But I'd recommend Neil Harding's Lenin's Political Thought (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenins-Political-Thought-Neil-Harding/dp/1931859892/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338058393&sr=8-1).

From the description it seems more of a record of his political development. Is it an actual biography?

They are more than willing, usually when they do, though, it is an attack or a comedy (The Trotsky).

Eh there's plenty of films about Communists, not all of them disparaging, in any case though this thread's about biographies as in books, not biopics

I hate the capitalists as much as the next guy, but...
