Progressive Labor Party & Party for Socialism and Liberation? I know they're both parties that have split with other organizations (CPUSA and WWP), but who founded them originally and/or founded the split party?

Also, who is currently the chairman of the Worker's World Party and the Progressive Labor Party?

Tough question even for members of those parties. Dick & Brian Becker along with Gloria La Riva "run" the PSL. Make the important calls and what not. Is the PLP even around anymore?

The Leftist Trainspotters (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/leftist_trainspotters) database might suit your inquiry.

PLP was founded by a group of people who left or were expelled from the CP-USA in the early 60's. I do not think it is import what the name of the individuals were or who leads them today.

Why the hell wouldn't members of a party know who is running it?

I think it is good that communist party does not have individual stars but rather a collective leadership that leads the party. This helps reduce dependence on a handful of leaders and the development of a cult of personality.
