View Full Version : What am I?

I am getting more and more confused over where I am on the political spectrum. I was wondering if any of you could help me?

Economic views : Very Left-Wing/Socialist. I believe corporations, banks and other large enterprises such as: farming, mining etc should be state owned. I think Services such as electricity and healthcare should be free and that class struggles and exploitation should be ended. However, I do feel that some form of money will always be needed and that different professions should be paid different amounts.

Political views : I think a country should be a one party state. I like the structure of the bolshevik party and how it was run. But I believe direct democracy should be implemented into the system. I have strong views against imperialism too.

Social views : I dislike today's society. I hate consumerism and how society is run by materialist garbage. I dislike religion. I extremely dislike Islam as it seems outdated and barbaric (yes, I have read the Qur'an). I have no problem with other races (although that may seem contradictory over what I just said about Islam). I find racism rather petty and arrogant. I have the view that mass immigration is unfair for 2 reasons : It takes the opportunities away from both your country and their (often less developed) country.

So what am I?
Thanks.

IMO if you're still learning and developing your political views, the last thing you should do is peg yourself down to a certain tendency. it's best to just be open minded, read a variety of different shit and talk to lots of different leftists about their views. So try not to worry about it for now.

I extremely dislike Islam as it seems outdated and barbaric (yes, I have read the Qur'an).

To be clear, there is nothing wrong with seeing Islam as such however it's something else entirely if you support the persecution of Muslims.

Not saying that you do mind you, just don't know why you chose to single out Islam.

I have no problem with other races (although that may seem contradictory over what I just said about Islam).

Islam is not a race?

I have the view that mass immigration is unfair for 2 reasons : It takes the opportunities away from both your country and their (often less developed) country.

That is completely idiotic and is a reflection of conservative bourgeois values. Immigration is not a problem nor does it constitute a threat to domestic workers. The problem lies on the fact that the state has instituted this insane policy of licensing things and immigration laws are bullshit.

If free migration were instituted, workers could come from any country and work and contribute to the domestic economy just as domestic workers do and there would be absolutely no difference between the two. But because of the current draconian immigration policies you have "illegal," workers coming in and because of this status they become even more exploited than their domestic counter-parts.

Further, the idea that immigrants steal jobs is nothing more than a nativist myth.

So what am I?

Probably a Bolshevik loving nerd, lol.

I don't understand this trend in threads where new members come here and want us to spoon feed or dictate to them what "tendency," they should be (I hate using that term). It would be a lot better if you just except the fact that you're new to leftist politics, learn what each "tendency," is about and advocates, learn the various theories, positions, etc. held by them and then make up your mind later.

I personally describe myself as an Anarchist and have done so for years and have yet to come to decision on whether I support Syndicalism, Communism or whatever.

Islam is not a race? Many people seem to think so. Most leftists accuse you of being racist for disliking Islam...

Further, the idea that immigrants steal jobs is nothing more than a nativist myth..So you think immigrants move for a laugh? No... they move usually to get jobs. And they can be paid way less than most "domestic" workers. You really think that doesn't take away jobs from "domestic" people?

It's not hard not to be an "illegal" immigrant, all you have to do is get a visa. It's pretty easy here in the UK at least...

This argument is very flawed and extremely stupid. Immigrants don't live in a social vaccum, they participate in general society like you and me. When they get a job they buy products, when they buy products this increases demand, when demand increases profit increases, and when profit increases investment increases, increasing employment.

You are an idiot. People don't choose to be "illegal" because that's their fancy. They are forced to buy their conditions.

If they do then their idiots because the Muslim community is comprised of various "races."

There is numerous reasons as to why people choose to immirgrate cheif among them is for economic reasons, yes, however my point is, immigrants, legal or otherwise do not take away jobs from domestic workers and if said immigration policies were done away with, they also wouldn't be super-exploited either.

Actually, speaking as an immigrant, yes, it is pretty damn hard to migrate to a different country. It's a very long, irritating and extensive process of which is completely unnecessary.

Even if this was done I cant imagine masses of people from America moving to India or Poland.

Has nothing to do with what I said but alright, probably not.

Why is it tendency baiting to tell someone they're a ML when they're specifically asking what tendency they are, especially when the OP admits to liking "the structure of the bolshevik party and how it was run" and supports nationalising services?

Yes. Then more and more people from another country begin to see this. Then mass immigration commences which means jobs just continue to go to immigrants because they work for a cheaper wage (normally). Not to mention while they do this, their own country normally continues to go further downhill.

This is something called Capitalism, not the immigrants fault that Capitalism seeks cheaper labour for better profits or cuts.

Listen... we should be supportive of people who are finding their feet......
otherwise we are doomed ....
and deservedly so.
There are a heap of contradictions here... but lets be kind about it....
It is fine to dislike fundementalism... intolerance... insane medieval type fanaticism of a godly nature..... but not to tie it to a particular religon....
as I have said before ... My grandad is a retired bishop of Jerusalem [Cof E] who has a great deal of time for Islam and has translated the QURAN and quotes from it all the time. It is not Islam... it is the fanatical interpretation of it.. or any other religon for that matter.... Those pea-brained christians of the bible belt in the USA are every bit as awful!

You forgot to say that immigrants pay taxes and usually don't receive the social benefits from it since the majority returns sooner or later to the country of origin.

Regarding the thread, I was about to say that by OP's description of his views he could probably fit in ML but that view on immigration doesn't fit in ML or another left wing ideology. It sounds more far-right to me.

Immigration is pretty vital to the continued existence of a global capitalist economy. The inlfux of new workers puts tension on the labour market and lowers the wage demands and therefore wage costs. This increases profit margins.

Immigration is therefore only a bad thing when you look at it from regional perspectives withing a capitalist framework where exploitation and competition are key factors for the economy to operate....especially when markets regress/decline.

The role of the capitalists is also to divide the working class in order to keep workers from uniting. They do so, amongst others, by pitting workers against workers...having them compete amongst one another.

By using nationalist sentiments against immigrants they cast the blame for economic regression of either the individual worker or the workers as a group on an outside "enemy"...a scape goat....deflecting the focus of where the real problem lies: within the system.

In fact the system itself relies on unemployment. A capitalist society cannot function properly with an unemployment rate below 3-4% because it puts to much upward tension on wages to maximalise profit. The capitalists interest is to maintain a balance between employed and unemployed in order to keep wages as low as possible without affecting spending too much.

Hence the policy of companies and governments to create large streams of immigrants during times when the indiginous population doesn't grow as much as needed or when there is a threat of to much demand for workers. Conversely...in times of stress and decline in economic growth...the first to get the blame are the immigrants

Notice how stricter immigration laws never really seem to fix the economic problems?

Becaue that is absolutely 100% EVERY single thing about Marx-Leninism summed up in that post right there. You are either very misinformed or your just trying to start something but either way your not going to stop so... have fun "refuting" every M-L who sees this.

As for you OP You don't fall into a specific tendency here and really I have to wonder if your all that familiar with Marxism at all but nonetheless there's no better time to learn right?

Have you read the manifesto?(a couple re-reads might not hurt either if so) It would be good place to start for anybody hopeing to fit in here especially if your ultimate goal is to fall in with a tendency.

..no I didn't say it was, the OP gave a pretty vague and disjointed set of views which don't represent "EVERY single thing" about any tendency. But somebody suggesting the OP sounds like a M-L isn't tendency baiting, it's answering the question, whether that answer given is right or wrong

And no I'm not trying to "start something", I don't really care much for most of the sectarian bickering on here but I don't see how Nox's post was baiting
