Call To The Trade Unions and Trade Unionists Of Europe

Call To The Trade Unions
and Trade Unionists Of Europe

Dear colleagues,
We are at a very crucial crossroad. The generalised and global nature of the capitalist crisis, the developments in Greece, Portugal, Ireland and within all the countries of Europe demand the slogan “Proletarians of the world unite” to be heard louder than ever.
New, higher duties come forward for the labour and peoples movement in the next period, because of the developments within EU.
The deepening capitalist crisis, as well as the dead ends in the management of the Capital’s political representatives, lead to the escalation of the assault against the working class and its movement. The intra-imperialism competitions sharpen, between governments and parts of the plutocracy. The new waves of attacks, the new wage-cuts, cuts of rights and of social spending for the people, in the name of the reduction of state’s deficits and debts aim at securing cheaper workers and new action areas for the European monopolies. (EU, ECB, IMF) Troicas with the bourgeois class of each country and their political representatives abolish labour and social rights and benefits of the workers and strike against national sovereignty. This is confirmed by the “EURO PACT”.
The role of E.U. as a wolf-pack and oppressor of the working class and the peoples is revealed through the experience of the working class, of the popular strata.
The myths of the plutocracy and its supporters, that E.U. is supposedly “a union of solidarity and a sheltered harbour for the peoples” have fallen apart. The capitalist crisis in the eurozone will further deepen. E.U. will become more and more reactionary and the workers will live in conditions of huge poverty and degradation if they do not rise up.
Being taught by our own experience and the current reality, we must reject the lies of the plutocracy and of their political representatives that the crisis was created due to workers’ rights or due to bad management. We do not have debt crisis.
What is the cause of the crisis is a key issue. Because depending on the cause, is the way out. They say that the causes are the bad management, scandals, the global financial system, speculators, the golden boys etc. Liberals, social democrats and opportunists try to confuse workers. The crisis is not a product of distortion of the capitalist development as imperialists, bourgeois parties and some trade union leaderships try to present, but it is a product of the capitalist development itself, it is one more crisis of capitalism. The crisis is a crisis of capitalism and was created by the immense profits of the big capital and their accumulation on the one hand, and the intensification of the workforce exploitation on the other hand. Capitalism is a rotten and outdated system. It cannot be corrected. As long as capitalism exists, it will always cause unemployment, hunger, war, brutal exploitation and oppression to the working class and the popular strata.
We are faced with a generalised attack that takes our lives and working conditions back to the last century.
The current situation does not only concern the working class of some countries. This storm of anti popular measures is promoted unified everywhere by E.U., IMF, ECB, by liberal and social democratic governments, by their big coalitions, and by central-right or by central-left variants of them (Germany, Italy, Greece). Such governments serving the modern needs of the capital usually have the support even of the nationalists (e.g. Greece).
Life itself, experience itself, clearly proves that in the EU of the monopolies, there is no solution in favour of the people. The overthrow of the monopolies’ power and disengagement from the imperialist organisations is demanded.
The leadership of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) also bears huge responsibilities for the aggravation of the life of the working class in Europe, for the situation we are experiencing today. It bares great responsibilities for disarming the labour movement with the policy of conciliation with the capital, with the policy of class collaboration with the employers and the imperialist organisations. Τhe leadership of ETUC under “social dialogues” supports the line of capitalist competitiveness, spreads illusions and disorientates the workers’ struggle. Those trade union leaderships often agree and co-sign wage cuts in the name of the crisis, they agree with the line that supports the dismissals of some of the workers in order to save the rest. They are the same who say “YES” to flexible forms of working relations, to flexible working hours, in the name of containment of unemployment. They cultivate defeatism. The logic that serves the interests of the capital creates disappointment, effects negatively to the trade union movement, disables and disorientates the trade unions. Only through the rallying and uncompromising struggle of the class based Trade Union movement in Europe and all over the world can hope again be built. The strengthening of the class trade union movement in Europe will strengthen the resistance against capital and antilabour policies and for the right to work, for social rights and will create the bases for growth aimed at fulfilling the needs of the working class and the popular strata.
Today, there is an urgent need for the awakening of the labour-popular forces against the anti labour alliance of capital, the immediate organisation of their struggle in every work-place, every sector, and every labour-popular neighbourhood. More than ever before, we need the coordination and leadership of the working class and of the class-oriented trade union movement, on a national and international level, to promote higher forms of struggle, in order to defeat and overthrow the supporters of capital. The slogan “ORGANISATION – COUNTERATTACK” today is topical and necessary and must be realized.

The Peoples, Do Not Surrender! We Rise Up!
What is needed today is the intensification of class struggle, so as to create obstacles to the worse measures that are coming. To stop new anti labour plans and to prepare the labour movement for the counterattack, whose result must target the overthrowing of the power of the monopolies.
Trade Unions must become centres of massive struggle and must form a movement of mass resistance, of obstruction to the implementation of the anti labour measures.
To strengthen the organization inside the work places, the formation of committees inside the companies, the factories, the neighbourhoods, is a great contribution.
We must strengthen the debate about what kind of movement, what kind of alliance, what kind of perspective we need. This is necessary to prevent, as much as it depends on us, the frustration that comes from the difficulties of the struggles. We need a movement against capitalist employers. We need a movement free from government and employer friendly trade unionism. We need a movement that fights not only for partial improvements, but for all the needs of the working class, for the overthrow and the abolition of exploitative relations. We need a movement organised and with deep roots within workplaces, above all within all production sites, factories. We need a movement that will be supported and will forge the alliance of the workers, with the self employed, the small farmers, the youth and students, and the women. We need an internationalist movement that fights for a single purpose in each and every country.
Such a movement will be in position to repel successfully the attack of the monopolies and of their political representatives. It will be in the position to play a leading role in the struggle for the overthrowing of today´s power, for people’s power, which will lay the foundations for the satisfaction of the popular needs.

We struggle, we demand and we try in action to form the preconditions needed
For the satisfaction of working class needs.
Through a line of struggle that gives the ability to organise resistance, to gain new rights, to develop the common struggle, the alliance between the working class and the farmers, the self-employed, puts on the agenda the issue of changes on the level of power and the economy. The changes that will liberate the working class from the state of exploitation and will clear the path for development by criteria the wellbeing of the labour-popular families.
To lead developments to this perspective, is demanded a workers-peoples´ power, that will represent the interests of the majority of the people.
The everyday struggles, are connected with the perspective of the working class movements struggle. This is so because, without this, we will stop halfway. And this is of great importance, for the development of the struggle.

Our goal is to help the working class of Europe to understand that
Our future is not capitalism.
Based on the above, we believe that
Today, more than ever before, we need the rallying of forces for:
• Militant, Trade Union Coordination in Every Sector
• Common, Class and Mass Struggles, Under Common Goals
• Strengthening Of Internationalist Solidarity in All Countries
