Slip knot are not fucking Metal/Hardcore/Punk band they are pop, and appeal to 12 year olds... just like s-club 7. They just scream like morons and talk about killing stuff, they suck so bad, that to call them a band is an insult to all artists.

Good bands of this kind are: -

cKy
Static-X
pennywise
Disturbed
Flaw
Tool (very good)
Foreign Objects
Rancid (On occasions)
Greenday
The Pixies

and of course the ultimate punk band... the sex pistols.

just a few.

Do you count feeder as metal?

You know, you could just make up some names - no-one would notice!

Include words like 'Death', 'Kill', 'Atomic', 'Blast', 'Haunted', 'Dark', 'Evil', 'Filth', 'Nuclear', 'Oath'...
Add some superlatives...
Splice and Dice...

How about these?

"MegaNuclear DarkFilth"?
"KillDeath BlackOath"?
"Darth"
"Haunted Children of Doom"?
"Evil Atomic Garbage"

etc. etc.

Wait and Bleed Lyrics

I've felt the hate rise up in me...
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves...
I wander over where you can't see...
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed...

Goodbye!

I wipe it off on tile, the light is brighter this time
Everything is 3D blasphemy
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up
This is not the way I pictured me
I can't control my shakes
How the hell did I get here?
Something about this, so very wrong...
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this
Is it a dream or a memory?

I've felt the hate rise up in me...
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves...
I wander over where you can't see...
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed...

Get outta my head cuz I don't need this
Why I didn't I see this?
I'm a victim - Manchurian candidate
I have sinned by just
Makin' my mind up and takin' your breath away

I've felt the hate rise up in me...
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves...
I wander over where you can't see...
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed...

Goodbye!

You haven't learned a thing
I haven't changed a thing
My flesh was in my bones
The pain was always free

I've felt the hate rise up in me...
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves...
I wander out where you can't see...
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed...

And it waits for you!

No I'm not kidding when I say Chumbawamba. You've obviously never listened to them. True their music of late does not have the typical "punk" sound but lyrically they are right on. Go listen to "Pictures of Starving Children" or "Never Mind the Ballots" and then tell me they aren't punk (these are albums by the way). Chumbawamba like the Clash started out as a straight ahead punk band and they have evolved musically, over time much like the Clash did.

Oh and El Brujo, the Dead Kennedy's weren't a hardcore band now were they? Neither were the Misfits. Notice I used the past tense in reference to both bands that seem ot think they can get new singers and still use the old band name.

Bad Brains aren't exactly HC either but since they are/were such a big influence to that genere, that's what their usually classified, same with Dead Kennedy's. As for the Misfits, I am talking about their old stuff, listen to Earth AD (their best album IMO).

I need to address a few posts here so bear with me.

Misodoctakleidist:

You say most of the bands mentioned are truly awful. I'm guessing you haven't heard most of them. Oh and the Pixies while a fine band weren't punk.

Victor:

I agree you can't put metal and punk in the same category, there are a few "crossover" bands, but most metal sucks. But I understand why you like it because you also like all that lame ass "classic rock". The Moody Blues ugh!!

El Brujo:

The Bad Brains are kind of a hardcore band, I always thought. As for the Misfits. Earth AD is the one album I don't have. "Walk Among Us" is still my favorite. Oh and in your original list there were some suspect names: Death Before Dishonor and Iron Cross. I'm not familiar with either of these bands, but their names make me think they are fucking nazis. That said you certainly name many good leftist/anarchist bands. So what's the dilly o?

I want to know what the fuck you are listening to that you consider to be "better music." because I'll tell you my friend, besides some highly polished forms of blues, funk, reggae and jazz, there is no better music. and besides, where would any of the shit they are fucking my earholes with today be without this lame-ass music?

As for punk, I'm 100% behind "The Only Band that Matters"

The Clash.

as far as punk goes--

the clash
(some) sex pistols
flogging molly
guns'n'roses (though i might not call them punk exactly)
pennywise (they're playing at the norva on jan 28, i'm going to harass my boyf into coming with me)
some alkaline trio
rise against

though really when it comes to bands, it's reliant on the songs.

I guess that post generated some interest. I was sort of being tongue in cheek, but I was quite serious about the Moody Blues. I like and appreciate classic rock, but basically I've heard enough Led Zeppelin to last me the rest of my life, the same goes for many of the other "classic" artists. Check out "Festival in the Desert" if you are a Zep fan. Plant sings on one of the songs, but that's not the only reason to get it. Lot's of great music.

Are the Stooges and MC5 "classic rock", what about the Sonics?

Just don't lock yourself into listening to one form of music and then claim that the rest has no merit (unless it is techno, trance, jungle, that stuff isn't really music anyway. ) I guess I should use those stupid smiley things.

Rasta, there really are no better forms of music. There is just music, Joe Strummer knew that. The forms of music you mention are all great. I like a lot of folk music and soul too. I also listen to what is loosely defined as "World music". Which is basically just folk music from different countries/cultures. I'm luck enough to live in an area with a really cool radio station that plays all kinds of great music (a bit too much techno and whiney indie rock at times though).javascript:emoticon(':)')

actually Enigma I have seen Disturbed and Static X in Kerrang as in the pop rock "magazines" such as Hit Parader here in america. Celtopunk, Iron Cross were an oi!/hardcore band from the early 80's who are now a big influence to most oi! and hardcore bands in the US, they were not nazis. As for DBD, they are one of those hip-hop influenced "thug-core" bands, so I seriously doubt they have anything to do with WP's either. I can see why people would think they are by the names but the iron cross was a german military garment long before the nazis came to power and "death before dishonor" was the code of the samurai before the kamikazees.

Goddam straight. Iron Cross were arguably the first American Oi! band and they sure as hell weren't WP. Just read the back page of the booklet to their CD Live For Now! and their singer, Sab Grey explains that whole part of their negative rep.

Yeah, quite a break from RATM. He never rapped and the lyrics were more about societal angst than politics. I like No Spiritual Surrender.

I like and appreciate classic rock, but basically I've heard enough Led Zeppelin to last me the rest of my life
Zeppelin, I have just realized, is totally and undisputably awesome. Riff-Rock turning into metal is an interesting process. I may be mistaken, but didn't they pretty much set metal and hard-rock up (and cause the downfall of modern music)?

the Stooges
I thought The Stooges were great, but then I found this:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=music&n=507846 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002R9Q/qid=1071858853//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl15/104-4949305-7280739?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)
not too good of music, but what they were trying to do was awesome. Great stuff. I think they are more avant-garde rock, aren't they?

Just don't lock yourself into listening to one form of music and then claim that the rest has no merit (unless it is techno, trance, jungle, that stuff isn't really music anyway. ) I guess I should use those stupid smiley things.
I agree, most of that shit blows. You should be varied in your musical tastes, and I try to be, but I can cleanly say that 99.9% or more hardcore is complete and utter bullshit. If you can sift through punk, it has quite a bit more promise, but I don't think the talent is there on a general basis. Diamonds in the rough do exist, though, I guess.

Avant-garde at the time, as was MC5 and the Velvet Underground. But wouldn't all three be considered "classic rock" now?

I confess I'm not a big hardcore fan. I could probably count the ones I like on my two hands. But I won't dismiss it outright. I just see a big difference between hardcore and punk, and most hardcore fans see that difference too.

As for the talent factor and punk or even rock music in general. Talent for what? To do 20 minute solos on your instrument? Or talent to write a song that might be catchy or actually have something to say lyrically. Rock n roll started as a form of rebellion and many of the pioneers weren't interested in how well they could play their instruments(this is not to say that there were no extremely talented musicicans in the early days). They had something to say, or they just wanted to have some fun. Now I'm not saying musicianship has no place in rock music. What I'm saying is it is not a necessity and to strictly use that as a standard is the antithesis of rock n roll. It is an integral part of other forms of music, classical for instance, but rock no roll isn't . Roll over Beethoven!

I'm glad you mentioned Roll Over Beethoven. The Beatles, even thjough they're my favourite band, had a kind of mediocre talent for most of their carreer as the Beatles. They became increasingly better. They were always genius songwriters, however. George may be an exception. He is among the greatest guitarists. Ringo also became quite a good drumer.

Actually it was a reference to Chuck Berry, the man who wrote the song. But as you point out it could be a Beatles reference as well. They didn't let musicianship or lack of stop them from making the music they wanted to make.
Yes they were good songwriters, just like many punk bands that I can think of.

Avant-garde at the time, as was MC5 and the Velvet Underground. But wouldn't all three be considered "classic rock" now?

I don't think they would be, for some reason. It is "old Rock," but it was so much more, as well. Interesting thought.

Talent. Having more than one month's experience with an instrument before you start selling records though. I get what your saying, though. As for Rock's grand-daddy's, Chuck Berry is one of the most awesome pedophiles I've ever heard play (there is reason to believe that whole thing back in the 50's was staged though...probably was by white cops...). I have heard Bo Diddley pull some awesome sounds out of his box, as well.

before they were on compilations with bands like conflict, crass, dirt, icons of filth, and other peace-punk bands

actually Enigma I have seen Disturbed and Static X in Kerrang as in the pop rock "magazines" such as Hit Parader here in america. I have seen tons of kids when i went to school sporting disturbed static-x and flaw shirts. all these bands have had gigs on high profile tours such as Ozzfest. and werent Flaw just a flavor of the month? I never heard anything about them from that hit 2 years ago.
Well i'm not from America, and I can tell you for nothing, they are not a big thing here. Out of all the bands I mentioned the only one which is actually big here is probably Tool. Hell they even sell their albums in Virgin megastores.

the lead singer of static-x, tripp eisen, is a huge icon on conservativex.com. apparently pam the admin used to date him. and keffrocker wants dreads so he can be just like tripp, his conservative idol.

I dont listen to them for their political ideology, if I did, then I would have to stop listening to a vast number of great bands. Really decent leftist bands a not exactly common.
