I was watching this documentary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4koXeZvAfg&feature=g-u-u)on homeless people in Bogota, Colombia, who live in sewers, and was shocked to learn that there are death squads who go out and murder drug users, the homeless and poor, including street kids, as part of a "social cleansing" program - apparently the culprits are rich people who are tired of living near the lower rungs of society, and so they hire mercenaries to kill them. Many squads also target gays and the mentally challenged.

Death squads and social cleansing have been a large part of Colombia’s past. Unfortunately, they are still a part of Colombia’s present: the government is using police groups and parts of the military to exterminate people that are considered to be socially unwanted, such as the homeless.

According to a documentary done by VBS.TV, the homeless are forced to hide in sewers to escape the death squads. These sewers, however, do not provide much protection as militia groups have been known to ignite the sewers with gasoline, trapping and killing those below. Many of these homeless people are children and adolescents who have been living on the streets for years. With no support and no other options, these people’s lives are at risk every single day.

Yes, the US government gives Billions in "aid" to the Colombian state. The US hires private armies to help the Colombian narco state fight the lower class competition that don't buy their chemicals from US Corporations and launder their drug money in US Banks. "Agent Green" is used to displace peasants from their coca fields, peasants who sell them to the "wrong" drug dealers, such as Pablo Escobar who was not one a puppet for US Imperialism.

Over 100,000 humans have gone "missing" in Colombia in the last two decades, with reports of mass graves and crematory ovens used by the Death Squads who are mostly hired by the local campesino class that buy their chemicals for drug manufacturing from US and western corporations, launder their drug money in US Banks and rid the competition that are not part of the Narco-State-Corporate drug running complex.

It seems you replied to my Pablo Escobar comment on the video, watched it today myself. Vice has great mini-documentaries. It's pretty sad turn from the days of Pablo Escobar trying to help the poor and assassinating politicians and the police and now politicians and the police assassinating the poor.

This really is sickening.

And I thought Newham Council, UK, were bad, for decamping 500 families on Housing Benefit, to Stoke-on-Trent, to make way for the Olympics, in their own 'social cleansing' measure :star:

Don't romanticize Escobar. He came to power by exploiting others, and conserved his power with terror and wholesale killing.

Really? Pablo Escobar, the scum of the scum, financial supporter of right wing death squads, is our new hero?

What is wrong with you people, idolising assassins and brutal exploiters?

If this is the left, I sure want to be on the right!

And, oh, Escobar was not a puppet for US imperialism... because US imperialism didn't need him as a puppet.

If we definitely have to be deluded, let's at least keep our delusions above such level.
