I think this scene is a huge commercial for communists. This guy, a criminal scumbag that is about to become the biggest mafioso in USA, selling drugs and guns, says how much he hates the communists.

Me, as a communist, I consider it my pride to have these elements hate me. Its an honour. Thanks Al!

If I were an ultra-leftist I'd be killing this thread for.........absolutely no other reason than for the sake of destruction.

Not to mention that Scarface is a critique of capitalism.

well given the almost deification of al pacino's scarface it seems most people who watch the film don't agree with your analysis.

I don't think Scarface is a good base for figuring all criminals hate Communists. Most probably don't give a shit, and even more don't know what the fuck it is.

I've always thought that Manolo was the character that audiences were supposed to like/relate to...Tony Montana p. much becomes a total asshole by the end of the film...

Comrade, you obviously dont understand the material conditions under which T. Montana operated. This was Miami, everyone in Miami becomes an asshole in the end.

Wow, people are dumb, look at the top comment of the video. The saddest thing though, the one who wrote the comment isn't the only one who thinks that way, 27 thumbs up

I don't know, in this culture, scarface is considered cool, a sort of modern day folk hero, get rich or die trying

It's the genius of the Hollywood system to craft entertainment that has a broad appeal, and in the case of the De Palma/Stone version of Scarface it can be read as either pro-capitalist or anti-capitalist depending on the viewer's bias.

I dunno, I don't think Scarface was trying that hard to have a political message or be a critique of capitalism or anything, I thought it was just a great film about drugs, guns and money. But maybe that's just my uneducated, casual movie goer take on it

If he got away smoking cigars on a gigantic beach house off the coast of Puerto Rico, it would probably be pro-capitalist. But by his condition & fate at the end of the film, I don't see how anyone would consider it 'pro'. In high school, I certainly saw a lot of Montana glorification (the ones I knew sold coke as well). I think it's just ignorance as its finest, like liberal students buying Che shirts from American companies.

The fine and noble farmers of Columbia are the real heroes. Without them we would never have the rich aromatic scents of BLOW.
