How may of you know about Pridnestrovie? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transnistria) A former Soviet territory which broke away to maintain a Soviet Regime from around 1991 to today. It's still in control of a strip of land east of the Dneister River, with a few cities etc. It's basically a Russian Aligned fortress with a Breshnev style mixed Economy and remains officially unrecognised by the international community. I think it's interesting for a discussion of international relations and for an analysis of post Cold War real politik

Interesting. Wikipedia says the economy is mostly private after a privatization drive in the 90's, and that trade goes through Moldova. The government is mixed-party parliamentary with a president.

Yea, they had a single President from 1990 until this December when an Independent candidate won. I think politically and economically it's following the same trend as most of the former Soviet aligned coutries. Including Cuba and 'Nam
