Ugh. Comrade Stalin would have never allowed such a disgusting affront to proletarian morality. Men with long hair and earrings! The idea!

Goddamn that was horrible! When you think of the Soviet National Anthem, you envision strong men and women and national pride. This on the other hand, is some weak ass bullshit.

I've taken a class that was all about rock and jazz in the Soviet bloc.

We analyzed shit like this and tried to make political sense of it.

There are very few things in the world worse than this.

I believe that, from this, the origin of the popular internet term 'troll' came into play. We should be thankful that we were able to watch something of such historical significance.

Wow what a shocker. First the Internationale gets replaced with this piece of nationalist Hegelian gibberish to suit the interests of the ascending state-bureaucrats as they were trying to crush a fascist incursion caused by their own cynical ineptitude.

Then some more degenerate clowns make a parody that attempts in earnest to recreate the imperialist/capitalist spirit of a song that usurped the worker's anthem. It is kind of beautiful in a aesthete's own way if it weren't so pathetically symbolic of the betrayal of the revolution dating back before these idiots in zoot suits were even born.

This is quite normal to anyone who looked into the USSR history regarding the media.
While we're oddly familiar with media restrictions regarding music in the USSR, at a certain period (starting with the 70s? arguably starting with Krushchev...) all the way 'till the end there was a laxing of the rules due to the arising of subcultures that loved Western music and then an attempt of co-option towards those sub-cultures.

SO this is one of those obvious attempts at co-option of popular music forms (at the time) with 'socialist realism' (kinda) that the USSR did to appear hip.

Here's one video I watched in the Soviet Jazz & Rock (i.e. Soviet Popular Music) class, a propaganda video maybe...of 1980.

Kinda like the Soviet system. 30 years into it and it all went to hell. Art imitating life?

I'm all for media freedom and one's right to use music for expression but THIS IS JUST AWFUL. At least bands like Gorky Park had some real... I guess talent if you want to call it that, though they were late 80's.
