The government has ended a contract with welfare-to-work company A4e after deciding that continuing would be "too great a risk", it has said.
Employment minister Chris Grayling said the Mandatory Work Activity contract to help up to 1,000 jobless people in south-east England find work would end.
The firm is the subject of a police investigation into allegations of fraud relating to government schemes.
An eighth person was arrested on Monday.
Seven others are on bail until dates in late May, June and July.

Is welfare-to-work one of those "workfare" slave labour programs?

Exactly, they've had them in the States for a while now I believe, but they've become a new, exciting and innovative flagship policy of this british conservative government (slashing public spending and jobs whilst setting up slave-ish programmes like this..bastards)

The title filled me with such hope, then it turned out they're just ending a contract with one company that's been in the spotlight for corruption since February. Mandatory unpaid work experience needs to be killed dead.

well considering the only realistic "change of government" we will see will be a labour gov, and these schemes are just a continuation of labour's various 'new deal' programs (which used the very same slogans, "welfare to work", etc), i wouldn't hold your breath.
so yes, revolution it is.

I concur.
But yeah, I've been one of the anti-workfare organisers in Bristol. There was the national day of action on the 3rd of March, and we decided to try and go for one every three or so weeks. Unfortunately, it's died down a bit since the Budget and the HSC Bill passing. Time to bring our attentions back, methinks.
