An excellent film adaptation of Gorky's Mother. Created in the Soviet Union & directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin in 1926.

Mother is an excellent novel. I also love old school films like this. Thanks for the link!

The novel is absolute gold, like most of the things Gorky wrote. He was a masterly writer and will be remembered as such.Unlike the bureaucratic and unimaginative writers who tried to gain some popularity by writing a novel in the socialist-realist style, creating crude propaganda which will be endorsed by petty cheifs of local party groups,he created great novels which were admired by Stalin himself. Alexander Fadeyev was also a good writer, although his carrier was an unstable one,and his political opinions were quite troubling going so far as to even 'denouncing' the 'bureaucratic mechanism' of the Writers collective, (Union.) and writing against Joseph Vissarionovich. These writers must be regarded with care,as long as their novels hold an artistic value, and stand as a reminder why they are representing the people and the party they can be regarded as the "engineers" of the society but if they get infested with anti-peoples rhetoric and lies, they can soon become the harbinger of reaction.
