last week, my girlfriend and i took our son to his pediatrician, and on the elevator going up he took a shit, so i took him to the men's room to change his diaper, only to emerge ten seconds later. the women's restroom had a changing table, but the men's room did not. either they're sexist against women ("changin' diapers is wimmin's work!") or sexist against men ("fathers are too useless and incompetent to be trusted with changing a diaper") either way, i'm wondering if this is something i could and/or file a lawsuit over.

Personally don't like the idea of filing a lawsuit..however, if it's the only way to get something done re making a changing room that's not dependant on gender, so be it.
I go into stores that have non-gender changing room or 'family' bathroom, don't see why that's not the norm.

a lot of places DO have them, which makes it even worse when some places don't. i only suggested filing a lawsuit because losing money is really the only kind of threat businesses care about. everything they own is insured, so property damage is something of a boon to them a lot of the time. a lawsuit, however, forces them to fork over their precious money, and can be used to put the issue of gender discrimination that's STILL prevalent in the world further into the public eye.
i don't care so much about the money, more about stabbing them where it hurts.

Over the lack of changing tables? You do realize businesses do have money and quite often lawyers on stand by which would actively combat the suit not to mention your own legals fees, right? This seems pointless and ridiculous.

A court case would probably last around 3 years if you decided to persue it. You'd have to pay legal fees, and you'd have to drag your ass to court for the hearings and stuff. It's not a labor struggle, so I guess it would be cheaper for the company to just buy a changing table than drag something out in court for years. Then again, as someone else mentioned they probably have lawyers on retainer so the expenses are already part of the budget. Shit like this is why I hate courts. The deck is so stacked in favor of the ruling class. How is a worker going to buy a fucking lawyer, take all this time off of work for hearings that last years? It's a great strategy corporations use to bust unions, too. They end up losing in court, but by then the union has dissolved. Anyway, off topic. I hate courts.
Seriously, why not pick your battles a bit more carefully? I'd start with a complaint or something. Write them a letter. Have a few other people write them a letter. Make an angry phonecall. You mentioned you were at the pediatrician, so perhaps someone up there might take your complaints about a changing station seriously. You are also a customer, not a worker, so your complaint is related to their service, and might have more merit.
It is a legitimate complaint though, I agree. Where I live, all the men's bathrooms have changing stations, and if not there is usually a seperate handicap/changing bathroom that anyone can use. No excuse for not having that kind of facility, really. Gotta take care of the kids.

I'm going to go ahead and say that their aren't a lot of parents in this thread.
But yeah, it is annoying, but not lawsuit worthy, complaint worthy.

Moderator action:
I don't want to see any more off topic posts or spam here. This thread isn't for discussing wherher you like or dislike the Discrimination forum. It's also not for ridiculing the topic creator. IF you think the topic is stupid, just give out a negative rep point and move on. Meaningful and substantial posts can be positive or negative but they need to contribute something to the topic. If you don't have something meaningful and substantial to contribute like others in the thread have, then simply don't post.
If you just want to make jokes and fuck around, then go to Chit Chat. This isn't the place.
Honest John's Firing Squad, you've already been warned by Mari3L to quit trolling and you've continued to do so. Any further posts you make in here that don't contribute to the subject matter in particular (see topic post) in a meaningful way are going to result in infractions.
Now, let's keep this topic on track guys. If Mari3L tells you to not to do something, don't do it.

I would simply make a request to the building management that there be change tables in the male washrooms. You could also make a mention of it to the doctor and their staff.
Accessibility issues like these mostly come down to laziness, cheapness, and ignorance. Sexist ideology would have definitely played a part in how the washrooms were built, but it's not likely that it was deliberately malicious.
