I'm a very distant observer, I have never been to Europe and don't follow too closely it's politics.
I see Cameron, Merkel, Sarkozy, denounce 'multiculturalism,' Norway terror attacks, Le Pen poll results, Greek elections, and I think there was some far-right government in Hungary?
Is this a serious threat in the near term? Will the same thing happen in Greece as 1920's/1930's Europe? Where support will rise for the extreme right and left, but the left is bankrupt and unwilling to provide leadership and the masses turn to the extreme right to find a savior?
Again, I haven't been to Europe, but I have spoken with many Europeans and what surprises me about them is how openly racist some of them are, Germans saying they "hate the Turks, even Turkey doesn't want these Turks" or a Spaniard complaining about 'Moroccans, they are like your blacks and Mexicans"
Once again, I don't know if this speaks to wider sentiment in Europe.
Also, anti-immigrant sentiment is very strong in Russia, with one poll saying 75% of Moscow citizens agreeing with a "Russia for Russians" slogans.
In think this is extremely dangerous, the crisis is real, and the 'left' is nowhere to be found.
