View Full Version : Do you consider yourself a 'revolutionary'?

Or just someone interested in socialism, etc?
I consider myself a revolutionary, like my signature says, socialism above all else.

You can't be revolutionary per se. Only pro-revolutionary.

I see.. Do you mean from a semantic point of view?
My dictionary says'
rev·o·lu·tion·ar·y
Engaged in or promoting political revolution

You aren't necessarily a revolutionary until you are participating in an active revolution. However, I get what you are saying and yes I am supportive of any and all leftist revolutionary actions.

For me, the term 'revolutionary' always conjures up images of Guevara and armed resistance...I would agree with being pro-revolutionary and taking part in actions that support revolution..but seeing as no actual revolution is taking place, don't think revolutionary fits as a label or at least I would feel odd giving myself that label.
That's probably really pedantic but oh well.

Revolution is so very old-hat. It's almost funny how old-hat it is. Very very almost. I'd sooner be an insurgent. Or an artist.

I meant it more like, we are not the ones that make the revolution, so we're not actually revolutionaries until we engage in one. Until then, we're pro-rev at best.

Sure, why not... "a flower by any other name."
I say Revolutionist partly because Revolutionary sounds rediculous for someone like me and Kropotkin's pretty cool

Pretty much me as well. I participated in my local occupy (before the police came in, broke everything, arrested a shit load of people for no reason, and destroyed it) but it was dominated by social-democrats or assholes trying to get Obama reelected (although the latter were a minority compared to the social democrats, but fuck them as well.).

If it came to, I'd engender combat against the foes of the people.

If I am revolutionary, it is for the fact that I look out for my future interests when the proletariat seize power. A professional artist does not necessarily sell his labor; he may direct capital into the investment of producing his art and enjoy profit acquired. Is such an artist a unit of the petty bourgeoisie, or is he a unit of a class vestigial in the context of industrial capitalism?

they dont care
as long as we dont dare
we can be much more

just open the door

Oy some of the semantic responses to this thread
Pro-revolutionary, revolutionary whatever. In the US people say "revolutionary" and I don't think people assume that that means that there is a revolution going on right now that they just don't know about. In fact many people in the US who don't actually support the idea of a real revolution call themselves revolutionary - "We need to have a revolution of the mind, put all this colonialist consciousness behind us and check your privilege". These would be college po-mo "revolutionaries".

I mean i'd like to be a revolutionary.... but there is no flaming revolution on the horizen.... worst bleeding luck!

I agree with the others, I've participated in strikes, demos, rallies, protests, Occupy, etc. but I do not consider myself a "revolutionary," in that there has yet to be one.
I also don't feel the need to get hung up on titles, I know what I want and I know how to get it and that's what I'm pushing for.

A Revolutionary, yes because I advocate system change that can only be brought on by revolutionary means.
Revolutionary, no, I am neither a constant spinner nor do I do anything absolutely groundbreaking.
Dont forget about those pesky nouns, verbs and adjectives folks!
