So, I have been getting really annoyed with the constant spread of Obama campaign propaganda which my democrat friends keep posting on facebook. In particular, they seem to have started to believe that Obama is actually supportive of gay marriage due to his speech the other day.

Would everyone mind joining me on raining on their parade? If you have a facebook and are comfortable with talking politics on it, would everyone like to re-post this beautiful Obama quote I found from November 2 2008
"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage."

If someone asks you for a source you can find it here

I've posted it, even though I'm not in the US and I don't think many of my friends will care :D

ehh, I don't really care about the parade to be honest.
But what saddens me is how naive the sentiment is.
Sure, it's one thing to say you're for gay marriage, but if you're a politician it means much more to try and do something to prove that stance. While the executive branch may not have many means in regards, they do have a few indirect ones to show their support for such a stance.

In other words, actions are always louder than words.

When we people realize that they're both just bourgeois parties with the intent of serving the bourgeois and the bourgeois only?

Ehh, positions can change. 4 years ago he didn't support gay marriage but that doesn't mean he wouldn't support it now. Actions speak much louder than words though, so we'll see what his support will actually mean.

In 1996 he claimed to support it, he is just full of shit and pandering for votes. Marx's comparison of religion to an opiate is referring to an opiates ability to dull pain, while not actually solving the problem. Religion kept people from revolting because they believed that the after life was when pain would be relieved and justice dealt. The democrats make people think that the problems they find in capitalism can be solved by the system nonviolently. Gay marriage will not be protected by national amendment, at least not in the near future. Obama is just vote pandering, and the blind following he has is just getting annoying.

Then Obama is just a opportunist who didn't think supporting gay marriage could get him elected before. Either way I don't think it's really a good strategy for attack pointing out that he is an opportunist. Most people know politicians are opportunists but people won't care if a opportunist tries to get gay marriage legal(Which is what supporters suppose he would do because he said he supports it).

I have mixed feelings about this; sure it's really refreshing to see that America could be taking a step in a more progressive direction but it is also obvious that nobody in American politics does anything out of decentcy and respect for humanity, they seem to be more in favor of cold rationality and self-centered manipulation.

It's easy for us to cynical of everything that isent full blown Marxist theory dictating what goes on in the world but since that's most likely going to be years after we are all dead sometimes little victories can keep us from thinking the world will be a reactionary shit hole for all eternity.

To be fair, most Americans don't know what the fuck bourgeois parties and bourgeois interests are.

I'm extremely cynical - I just see Obama as doing another round of election year vote pander (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cd/Panda_Cub_from_Wolong%2C_Sichuan%2C_China.JPG/800px-Panda_Cub_from_Wolong%2C_Sichuan%2C_China.JPG)ing. I doubt he'll issue an executive decree to protect gay marriage, or do anything really.

On second thought, a bourgeois party sounds fun. I had a mental image of the finest weed, expensive alcohol, steak, and a saltwater pool.

Why is posting something he said in 2008 any more meaningful than something he said in recent days?

People are less drawn to homophobia in recent years, and the push for gay marriage has gained more traction. He's just aligning himself to the position opposite the republicans - for exclusively political reasons, to be sure... but what were you expecting? He is a bourgeois politician; he has to make political moves. That's what politicians do.
