I'm currently in the process of writing a horror film or something. I would love if anyone could suggest me short stories that involve things like a small and isolated group of people who all end up missing. Like the Mary Celeste or the Flannan Isles lighthouse incident. Some occult activity would be preferable.

Maybe I've asked this in the wrong place.

You absolutely must.
Attempts at turning into a film have been made before, with mixed results. Since Lovecraft often deals with things that are incomprehensible or not conforming to the geometry of the natural world his stories are pretty hard to turn into films.

I thought the 2005 b/w silent film was absolutely stellar.

Have you seen Altitude? Apparently, it was highly influenced by Lovecraft.

It was good but left out a bunch of stuff, some of which couldn't really work in a film.

to the OP: are you familiar with "picnic at Hanging Rock"?
Also, this is a very interesting incident IMO: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyatlov_pass_accident

I agree. It was an ingenious adaptation and quite faithful to the original story.
1. Google search for Roanoke Colony
2.

Yes, very entertaining! The lighting was a little bit plain, a whiff of expressionism would have done it. Always amusing to watch the leftists fascination with a hysterical racist and reactionary like Lovecraft (me no exclusion).

I'm basing my film on the Flannan Isles incident where a group of lighthouse keepers dissappear (mostly because I can film there and neighbouring locations on other islands which includes lots of stone circles and neolithic monuments):

I'll look to get The Call of Cthulhu at some point. I've been interestd in getting some Lovecraft for a while but trying to find time to read it was a problem.

Those guys were definitely abducted by aliens.

One of the best stories along these lines is The Voice in the Night by William Hope Hodgson.

They were obviously abducted by a twisted cult which sacrifices humans to the old gods!
