Well, there isn't a draft, it's just in the event they reinstate the draft or lottery. So I'd just sign it and forget about it. If they reinstate a draft system, then you have to start thinking.

I'm aware of what it says, the problem being with America being America there is always the possibility of the draft being reinstated and I like to think ahead and not tackle it as they come.

Might as well just sign it. There's an overwhelming possibility you won't be drafted.

And if the draft is reinstated, well, fuck, figure it out then. A lot of us will have to.

I had to sign it for college financial aid.

Just do it and then do some of the things Republicans have done to avoid being drafted when war breaks out:

Not really much of a choice is it? No conscription my ass.

So what did you do then?

I signed it and sent it in... I need financial aid for college so if I didn't sign I would have been screwed. I figure that if they ever did reinstate the draft I would just refuse to go and take my prison time.

I don't remember ever even signing mine, but I was cleaning my room and found my card that said I had already signed it. Wtf!

The way I look at it is that do you really think that "they" will forget about you? Ya I dont think so either. The negatives outweigh the positives on this one comrade.

I don't remember ever getting a card... or maybe I did get one but I just lost and forgot about it.Hmmm.

I don't think they always send out a card, or just don't anymore? When I became a US Citizen, I just signed the thing and got the card a week later.

Anyway, all I can say is sign it and get it done with. You won't get a bunch of recruitment letters afterwards as far as I know, and if they ever do reinstate the draft, you can flee the country or just take the prison time.

Yeah it's a card and it has your info on it and says to keep it on you at all times lol yeah right.

Canada is right there, just saiyan.

I know the negatives are pretty damn bad in this case.

I keep getting letters from them to join the Marines and for the wrong name they put down so I get twice as many! Not to mention I'm not doubting that they will come to my house and ask me to join like they did to my brother. He was not happy that I let them know he was home.

Just sign the thing, it means absolutely nothing.
To me it's symbolic. Shit goes down and I'm 30 minutes from the Great White North.

This

I signed it so I can get my federal aid for college.

When the draft comes I'll either be in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, or somewhere in South-America (Venezuela, Argentina).

Yeah, really. You're lucky you're so close to Canada ... physically the closest place I can get to is Cuba. And that's neither easy nor cheap. Or Mexico. I just checked flights for shits-and-giggles ... $224 to Mexico City via Airtran booked a month ahead. Probably around the same to drive just to the border.

Third option is to just become a nomad ... ride trains ... dumpster dive ... hitchhike ... be free

I'm undocumented, and even I had to sign up for financial aid. All I know is, if they bring the draft back, I'm either going back to Mexico, or find some way to get to Canada.

That is true... now just to fight my way past the militarized border... *sees hundreds of miles of pristine, unguarded woods* ...nevermind... :D

From what I hear, you can not sign up for it and they won't give a shit. They'll send you threatening letters, but unless you go out making it known that you ditched the SS, they won't bother arresting you.

If you want financial aid or a government job, you'll have to sign up. I had to sign up, because of the stupid university my father is making me go to.

I don't think it needs to be said, that the Selective Service is a fucked up sexist, authoritarian institution, and it needs to be abolished.

I most likely will need college funding and yeah I saw that too, check off if you are a woman because they don't want them, the fuck is with that?

Does it have to do with jury duty as well? Mine had something to do with jury duty on it.

Because women are fragile little flowers who can't participate in combat and need to be protected.

And, that sucks.

I had to sign one when I was signing up for highschool (i'll be an incoming freshman). I was kind off pissed off internally when the just handed me this document expecting me to sign it. I signed it anyway though, because I have to go to highschool.

You might have been duped. You don't need to sign up for the selective service to go to high school. As far as I know.

Can people as young as thirteen or so even sign up?

I think you have to be 18 for them to even consider you.
