what are they beliving in?
They believe that they were opressed in their home country.
They moved to South-America and start a commune named "Jonestown".
Jones was under pressure by media and relatives when they find out what kind of cult it was. Some people from commune had managed to escape and tell the world what it is like.
Jones was so pissed off and he created his theory "Translation".That meant that after death they would go to other place which is like heaven.
He forced the members to commit suicide and those who didn't were killed by guards.Jones died with them.

Jim Jones, David Koresh, the Moonies, Mormons. . .all those weird psychos are just scary. I think RATM was sucked into some little cultish Christian denomination. He seems to be way too brainwashed to be Catholic (Catholics are alright most of the time). They use tecniques like "love-bombing'' to create emotional dependency on the new convert. Let's be warm with our comrades, otherwise they're going to seek out the affections that they lack of in weirdo cults.

aye guey! I've seen some survivor stories of girls that excaped from places like that. I'm not sure if it was the same cult thingy though. Who is fucking stupid enough to follow any of that shit? Reminds me of those idiots that killed themselves to get on the rocket that would take them to hale bop commet

yeah the Jonestown Massacre was crazy. They'd line up right in front of Jim Jones and just drink the poison and die in front of his face, while he sat on his porch. Disgusting to say the least...
btw, it took place in Guyana, a country between Venezuela and French Guiana.

Holy shit local boy! I graduated from the same high school he did, heh, everybody in this town has a Jimmy Jones story, my friends dad is buried in the same cemetary as Jones, I graduated highschool with a cousin of his, my grandmother knew him when they were kids. He was just another religious nut. He has no value to any real leftist movement.

Well, he did claim to be an "apostolic communist", he considered American imperialism and capitalism to be his enemies. He actually established ties between his church and the Soviet Union. In his sermons he quoted Karl Marx and defended Fidel Castro, Kim Il Sung, Stalin, etc. He preached against racism, sexism, and classism. And what shocks me most of all is that he actually managed to draw support from the likes of Angela Y. Davis and Huey P. Newton.
That makes me question the stories of the Jonestown massacre we've all read in the bourgeois press. I don't believe that Angela Davis would support someone who was really such a crazy loon as they make him out to be. If anyone has any alternative sources on what actually went down, I'd highly appreciate them. I'm by no means defending the blind personality cult and gratuitous murder of almost a thousand people that the Western media claims he created. I'm questioning whether it's true.
