View Full Version : What are your main news sources?

In English my go-to sources are Bloomberg.com and I subscribe to Reuters wire service. Also I read the FT and Economist.
Socialist sites I browse just once a month or so, they arn't really updated much and never have much to say anyways, just repeat what other sources say and throw in typical left-phrases.
I also have other language source I follow but I'll keep it to English in this thread.
I'm a real news junkie, I much take in about 200 different stories a day. Very happy I live in a world of smartphones and iPads.

BBC News, The Guardian, freethinker.co.uk...I try to vary it and avoid tabloids and fox/sky as much as possible.

1st May 2012, 11:26
Mostly the business press like the financial times, but also the Guardian, Democracy now! (they tend to have marxists on..), New York Times, Russia Today (their youtube comment section is always full of conspiracy loons and fascists..), and a few others. I avoid sensationalist and tabloid papers (such as the Daily Mail) like the plague.

Reuters. If you work in any tv news station, you'll realize this is where they get all of their information from.

Democracy Now! is pretty good. I also like www.antiwar.com even though free-market libertarians run the site.

mine is revleft:laugh:
Honestly, this is pretty accurate for me. Revleft is where I get almost all my news. My family always watches NBC news during dinner, but I'm usually don't pay attention very much because it focuses so much on stupid shit. Every once in a while I'll read a TIME magazine, the local newspaper, or New York Times, but not often.

Junge Welt, Linkezeitung, Sueddeuscthe, Spiegel, The Economist are the ones i subscribe to in one way or another, and i like youtube's The Real News Network, which is really the best news source i can trust. Also Die Linkezeitung is good, a Trotskyist newspaper.
BBC, Revleft, RT
In that order

I go for a lot: The Real News, Reuters, Al-Jazeera, Russia Today, Thom Hartmann, The Young Turks, Democracy Now!, Z-Net, and C-Span. When I watch TV it's going to be Current TV for news, but I don't watch TV often.
Yes, I have a problem haha.

The BBC, NPR, The Economist, the English version of Der Spiegel, and blogs for some kinds of news that never make the main pages. I'm interested in transportation, housing, and urbanism, and the news is more focused on sex, violence, and asking people who never think about things what they think about things. I also go by DemocracyNow's main page and sometimes watch the Young Turks, but I don't like sitting and watching. I'd prefer to read.

is it common for people on the left to watch russia today?
Yes, probably because it's less pro-american. Although it is very pro-putin.
Around the russian election time, their pro-putin coverage almost made me puke.

I quite like RT, of course it's biased and you should take their reports with a big pinch of salt but we're not exactly spoilt for choice for round-the-clock news stations, and they do at least offer an alternate perspective and focus on issues the Western media normally don't. Julian Assange's new show on there is pretty good as well.

Apparently you're right.
As they say themselves:
We receive state-funding but are not state run.really? a quick scan of the internet shows that they're owned by the russian international news agency, which is state owned.
not that it makes much of a difference whether it's state owned or corporate owned, anyway.
I just look at the news feed on Google. I don't really look at news as much I should. I don't even touch Russia Today. It seems quite biased.
not all of them everyday,

Indy Media

I noticed that sites like NY Times, etc. and my local newspaper are limiting the number of articles available without a print subscription. Bastards!! (is that word allowed here?) I'm sure a lot of the others will follow. Basterds!!!

Not always in this order..
World Socialist Website Somewhat sectarian but very good economic coverage
Democracy Now!
Al Jazeera They have their own biases but still interestung
BBC
NPR Their faux liberalism is intensely annoying and they are very pro-imperialist-only interviewing US State Dept officials about international crisis, etc. Still their morning news more or less tells what's happening in the world
CNN CNN International is a lot better than US CNN.
Salon.com Glen Greenwald is great.
Daily Kos Occasionally read this. Left wing of the Democratic Party. One can be banned for advocating a third party. Some socialists have snuck on.
Huffington Post Occasionally
Counterpunch
Truthdig Once in a while. Useful but just doesn't send me
Common Dreams Liberal/left. Some very good articles
The Economist Pro-business but they do tell you what's happening in the world.
The Financial Times Used to read this when I got it for free.
ScienceDaily Science news.
Z Net. Some interesting articles. Their format is not readily accessible without paying for a membership.
RevLeft The ongoing struggles subforum was useful during the peak of the Arab Spring and the early stage of the Occupy movement.
Lenin's Tomb Richard Seymour's blog, a UK SWPer. Used to be interesting, now seems Seymour is using it to promote his academic career.

yo i know this is like a "yeah come on #FF0000 this shouldn't surprise you you dummy" sort of thing but I was blown away when i saw like six different news agencies once report on some marines in a humvee opening fire and hitting a ton of civilians after being hit by small arms fire, and then saw FOX run it without ever mentioning they hit civilians.
