Has anyone else seen these films by Polish director Andrzej Wajda? The films go (in order): A Generation, Kanal, and Ashes and Diamonds. Personally I've only watched A Generation, but it made me want to check out the other two.

To give you an idea, if you haven't seen/heard of the trilogy before, they basically span part of the time Poland was occupied, all of them dealing with the Polish Resistance. A Generation takes place during '42, surrounding the life of a working class guy in a part of Warsaw, and his dealings with the Nazi occupation. Like I said, the films deal with the Polish Resistance, so down the line the Protagonist, Stach, gets caught up in fighting the Nazis with the communist part of the Polish underground resistance.

I haven't seen the other two like I said, but from what I know, Kanal takes place sometime during the Warsaw Uprising, again the characters dealing with the Polish Resistance (if it's the communists like in A Generation, I'm not sure.) Ashes and Diamonds takes place after, in '45 at the end of the war. Unlike A Generation, the Protagonist is/was apart of the Polish Nationalist underground. It deals with the quickly growing Soviet influence on Poland, specifically Warsaw, if I'm not mistaken.

So anyway, has anyone else seen these films? What did you like/dislike about them? I highly recommend A Generation, it was really good imo, and I'm definitely getting Kanal and Ashes and Diamonds to finish out the trilogy, just to see. Also, for those who don't know, these films were all made during the late 1950s incase you were wondering.

I´ve only seen Ashes and Diamonds of those three. I think it´s very good. I find the cinematography and overall style of the film to be the most impressive aspect of it. Wajda was a very talented director. The story and plot are also interesting enough.
