I gave it a shot, but I just could not take more than 2 minutes of this stuff.
Another oldschool socialist oracle testemony...
"as we incidently predicted, no just 10 years; but 20 years ago. It is no longer a perspective; it is a fact, what we pointed out at that time. "
Alan Woods should work at City of London Stock Exchange or something:rolleyes:

Never heard of him--more importantly--should I have?? 2 mins. My my! I admire your fortitude Panglossian. British? We are wall to wall with ideological Peacocks, who love the sound of their own voices. Over the years I set out a rule in stone. Never listen to anyone who is not gainfully employed in some job or profession. Who knows what gems, pearls of wisdom I might have missed.

No, you shouldnīt. With Mr. Woods, you havenīt missed a thing. He is just one more ideologue mythologizing himself and his petty sect as something relevent or even necessary to the working class.

2 mins. My my! I admire your fortitude Panglossian.
Thank you, Sir!;)

Iīm afraid that ideological peacock syndrome is more of a universal thing than British. Even though Brits might have a more advanced and sophisticated tradition of rhetorical games than many others. In the scarcely populated island I inhabit, the political climate is full of those who love nothing more than the sound of their own voices resounding tired phrases and rhetoric.

“Ideological Peacocks who love the sound of their own voices”

How would he know, he “Never listens”.

“Over the years I set out a rule in stone. Never listen to anyone who is not gainfully employed in some job or profession.

That’s 2,7 million ‘British’ workers, men and women our ‘national socialist’ dodger “Never listens” to.

“Who knows what gems, pearls of wisdom I might have missed.”

The people he “Never listens” to, obviously.

got me ---bang bang!! threetunes....prefer not to have the tag "national socialist" though.
it might give a glimse why leftists are mistrusted when they call for troops to move forward WW1 style and look back to find themselves deserted. Workers don't need the Cliffs the Healeys or the TAAFES, Grants, et al. My tease was in earnest though, we really don't need them, intellectual workers or worker intellectuals...maybe I will give the time of day. Debate and collective thought at union or workplace sufficed. I actually picked up one or two sensible ideas. Maybe you are SPARTACUS THREETUNES.....at least you have a sense of humour.....that goes a long way with us....

Anyway, I for one did listen to all of Alan Woods speech and I learned that while he understands correctly that we are in the greatest economic crisis in human history, he devoted no time to the consequent imperialist war drive unless to blame Iran, without a shred of evidence, for allegedly developing nuclear weapons. Amazing!

Claiming to have predicted something is a typical rhetorical tactic to boost morale that "we've been right all along".

I've listened to the first 45 minutes of the speech and it is really amazing how you can spend so much time saying almost nothing. The capitalist system is in crisis, ok. There are no solutions within this context, ok.

So, what is the way forward? Woods doesn't explicitly talk about this, but he implies that workers will just spontaneously revolt and vote in left parties (what he calls a "revolutionary solution"), like the KKE in Greece.

But then what? Can Greece go at it alone? Can a beginning of a positive alternative to capitalism be built in Greece? And if not, how is this a viable strategy? What about an all-Europe strategy? What about building our class with a political program of taking power? Why would the working class rise up as a class? Why wouldn't the far right be able to jump into the political vacuum? And is voting in leftwing parties an actual revolution? Is nationalisation "under workers control" all there is to it? Greece had 12 or 13 general strikes so far, with no result. How is demanding more general strikes then a strategy?

I could go on. Point is that Woods doesn't cover this or comes up with platitudes.
