I look Latino, I am Latino though I dont have anything close to an accent. So why is it that whenever I find myself sitting in an office, on the train, taking the bus or trying to buy groceries do people feel the need to vent their well thought out racist rants around me, and then look to me for some kind of affirmation? Just today I was at a temp agency waiting for my job assignment when this lady got pissed because she was told there was no work for her unless she produced a non-expired I.D. You cant hire people unless they have this. So she looks at me and says, "I bet I'd get work if I was an illegal". Wha? You talkin to me? Im Mexican, dummy! Why O' Lord, Why!!!!!!!!

From now on it's nothin but ponchos and sombreros for you missy!

Those racist rants tend to be interesting. I am also Latino, I'm fucking tan as shit, and I have a slight Dominican accent from my father's side when I say certain words. This tends to draw attention; so when non-Latinos say racist things against certain types of Latinos (i.e. immigrants) around me and then try to talk to me as if I will turn my back on my fellow Latinos and play the "civilized Latino" who will turn against the "bad Latinos," I troll them. I say at first that I agree with them and I have a nice conversation with them, but then as I leave, I tell them that they are racists. They get the weirdest looks on their faces.

I don't understand what it means to experience this kind of racism. There was a time when a friend of mine went on a racist rant and I didn't think much of it at the time, but I don't know what to do.. Is it better to explain it to them?

I dont know if its racism directed at me or if people for some reason think I'm just not Latino(I hate the word Chicano). But they always think that they've found an "inside" person that will back them up. The sad part about this last incident is that she is a Chef looking for temp work in another kitchen. If any of you have ever looked in a professional kitchen in America it is 90% latin.

I experienced the whole 'go back to your country, you russian' thing pretty frequently while in High School in the UK. I ended beating the shit out one of the guys, everything was fine after that.

I've had racism(If you could call it that) directed at me from other white people. Shit like "You're a stupid redneck," "trailer trash", etc, because I was poorer than them. I got mistaken for a Mexican a couple weeks back at my job though, that was pretty funny. I'm not even that dark, that lady was just stupid.

It's similar in Russia. Russians call Caucasians "blacks" despite the fact that both groups are pretty much just as white as each other.
