More reactionary tripe from the 'men of the cloth':
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/9227210/Catholic-schools-face-indoctrination-claims-over-gay-marriage.html
The Roman Catholic Church, has contacted its schools in the UK, to encourage pupils to actively join the campaign against the legalization of gay marriage. They stand accused of indoctrination. Given the Jesuits had an old adage, running along the lines of 'give us a boy of 7, and we'll show you the man', it's hardly surprising.
And here we have one of the holier-than-thou ringleaders of the initiative:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/9124963/We-must-protect-true-meaning-of-marriage-says-Roman-Catholic-leader.html
Likewise Tory MPs believe the gay marriage law will not succeed. Bastards:

Not surprising, religious fundies have never been interested in maintaining independence but rather only political theocracy.

They're backward pricks right enough. No doubt about that. But for the Church to instruct its schools to encourage pupils to actively engage in a campaign against gay marriage. Not acceptable, I'm afraid. Especially when 100 per cent of the running costs of these schools comes from the state, and 85 per cent of the cost of maintaining the buildings.
These dickheads need to wind their necks in now. Or have their public subsidy withdrawn totally and immediately - and fund this shit themselves.

"Probably?"
There is no doubt in my mind that they are. The openly preach it and there is nothing people can do about it. With 'private school'

With regard to schools, I don't think too many kids do take them seriously on many issues. Some god-botherer trussed up like a turkey in a mitre, banging on about 'no sex before marriage', or the 'evils of masturbation' will get laughed out of the fucking place.
But cos it's an LGBT issue, in an homophobic culture, their shitty ideas will be taken onboard by some.
The ending of this vile creed can't come soon enough for me - and all other forms of god-shagging as well.
What pisses me off is a cleric issuing edicts to teachers, in schools funded out of the public purse.
If I had my way, these schools would fund their own nonsense, or be secularized tommorrow.
And the same for the Church of England schools too.
And whilst we're at it, I stand for the Disestablishment (and disendowment) of the Church of England as well.. It should be thrown out of the state arena, with all the ceremony that one would throw out a bag of old rubbish, to await the dustman's collection.

To be honest i doubt many kids will go along with it. I should know I was in a Catholic school, and my memory was that most students were fairly progressive (read labour supporters). There were a few hardine religious nuts but they were getting their instructions direct from church, no-one else was particularly bothered by moral messages given by the school. (I remember we eventually started up a drugs talk bingo board).

In my school (Catholic) during sex ed we were always taught being queer was okay, however I know that things in the churches are different, a priest working at our school was active in compiling a petition against gay marriage.
The only time when the Churches teaching was mentioned was a two minute aside after seeing our teacher give us a tutorial on how to se a condom, in the chapel!!!
Recently we've been involved in arranging our leavers dinner which will be in the town centre on Wednesday night which is normally gay night in town and our head of year said 'If that's a problem for any of you I suggest that you grow up, cause you'll see a lot of gayness at university'.
Now I'm not sure what it is like in other schools but the Catholic element of our school is routinely ignored or mocked by all except the actual administrators, people we never actually see, the head, local priest, local councillors, rich donor etc...

Whilst I share you sentiment comrade, allowing privitisation would be a disaster, I'd hate for the future students of my school to be left at the mercy of the Church.

I wasn't suggesting privatization, but that the church should fund these schools out of its own financial reserves. The Vatican is cash rich yeah. In no way should pupils or their parents, be expected to cough up any cash.
Having said that the god-shaggers in holy vestments and mitres, would have even more input into matters then.
The Catholic church may have the finance to fund its own crap. That's not to say it would. The Church of England certainly hasn't got the financial muscle, to keep its schools open without subsidy. It can't even keep its churches open, and provide those that exist with sufficient clergy.
In fact, to hell with it. The state pays for this carry on. Comprehensivize and secularize the church schools now, and tell the clerics to piss off.

^ That's more like it. If the state simply stopped funding the schools and left them to the church I fear that the clerics would have too much influence. State intervention has helped implement progressive legislation such as abolishing corporal punishment and I fear that without direct control from government instances of child abuse might slip under the radar.

They do it to indoctrinate young minds(children), Plus where they have political clout or the state abandons obligation to educate---they raid the tills. Run off with the cash. Until catholics rid themselves of their spineless attitude to clerics or the tax payer is sickened of being fleeced, our children will be subject to primitive ideas.

I think thats a bit harsh, I certainly don't remember much indoctrination above and beyond the traditional "capitalism is awesome" line that you get everywhere. I mean to be honest most of the teachers weren't even catholic, the RE teachers were, but they enjoyed healthy debate. Most of the religion was on the basis of personal conviction rather than brainwash the children. The admins might have been into that sort of stuff but the teachers were generally just hardworking ordinary people.

Firebrand, then explain to me how my son who was brought up a protestant was obliged to pass an exam on 100 catholic martyrs before he could pick up his computer qualifications that he studied 2 years for. As for teachers I have known many communists at catholic school and indeed as you say hard working. Not only did the church stuff religious crap down children's throats...they were given envelopes to be filled with money, shamed is more apt a word. I don't doubt your experience, and am glad it was positive. My experience has been ...give the bastards an inch..they'll take a mile. On the subject of teachers I am reminded in year before start of 21st century my friends Ma a convinced catholic, assistant head, worked for one year as Principal, only to be refused the job full time. A man was thought more appropriate. Religious bigots have no place in our schools. There ability to warp adult minds is lessening, this can only mean a greater emphasis on children's minds.

And he probably also had to learn a lot of other irrelevant curriculum.
The education system is focused on teaching people to be obedient to the bourgoise.

I'm sorry you had such a negative experience, for the record, my headteacher was a woman so the bigotry probably varies from place to place.
How can the results of one exam be linked to a qualification for another subject. That makes no sense. You learn the religious stuff for the RE exam and the Computer stuff for the computing exam surely? Don't they separate subjects where you are? If they don't then thats really bad.
As for the envelopes for money, we got them too but they were usually for cancer research or something, which is generally considered comparatively innoffensive as charity giving goes.

As I said, Firebrand, my son would Not be presented with his certificates to start on the road. Placid to the point of being a near saint, he was driven to rage. Daddy Dodge picked up the papers, checked through the saints. OH LOOOKY...80% WERE BUTCHERED BY PROTESTANTS---CHEEER UP BOY. He got through the ordeal. Absolutely no sense or decency. Fall in or fuck off was the 'choice. There was no doubt where these envelopes ended up! Wifey went to a parents empowerment meeting and told she could bugger off...least antagonistic woman I have ever met. That's why they attend in secret afraid I might turn up. I spare their blushes, but enjoy teasing them I will one day. Pork barrel politics...the meat is cut with a razor by the time it reaches the 'front-line'. Criminal...I play dominoes with one young priest he has more land than anyone in the area. Always tries to get in before the relatives if their is sickness it's a toss up whether the church gets the land or he does. The tricycle cabbies knows I love to hear the latest, recounts his nocturnal visits, though paid handsomely for his silence. Pointing out the houses on our journey like a tour guide.Gratis. They are a mixed bag many are utterly decent, one got killed by army intelligence...a well loved fellow, knew he was living on borrowed time. Several in the hills, one with 5m Peso price on his head. A social organization like any. Subject to all the temptations of a corrupt decaying society.
