Has anyone read this guy? He lived from 99BC-55BC, and in On the Nature of Things he talks about how religion is false and science is true. He says that atoms are the building blocks of everything, and are indestructible. After this, he goes on to say the universe is infinite.

I've only gotten through part of this book, but it is simply remarkable that he theorized these things.

Have it but haven't read it yet. An interesting fact is that only two copies of that work survived the Middle Ages.

I haven't read it, but it sounds interesting. I am very interested in Greek and Roman history, and many of the works that were produced back then still seem interesting and relevant today.

It's true that a lot of ancient works have been lost. A lot of works reference other undiscovered writings, so we know they exist. Damn shame really.

Of course the big ancient guys are Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle; but some of the Romans are pretty underrated.
