Here is a cool and creative guy:

Just check his treehouse pad out. It's "thoroughly illegal" apparently, and is close to millionares houses. He didn't have the money to buy a property, so he built his own. Necessity is the mother of invention, as is often said.

I wish the guy well, and hope that his neighbours aren't snooty enough to try and get him moved on.

What about working class squatters squatting because they want to?

also this from the article

Without the money to buy property, he decided to do it on Crown land in the forests of Whistler.

The comments on this story are pretty entertaining. Basically people think it's a cynical publicity stunt for the guy's engineering work or whatnot.

On the one hand I do think the design is kind of cool and if I was on vacation and you could rent one for like $75/night I'd be willing to do that for the novelty. But on the other hand I can understand why people would be annoyed by this story - the video is pretty smugly self-congratulatory hipster-yuppidom and a little like "squatting for gentrification" or something.

I posted it in chit-chat cos it's a bit light-hearted. Hence the term "squatter" being in inverted commas. The guy hasn't got the money to buy a property, but then he is choosing to live in a swanky neighbourhood. As an architect, I'm sure he could probably afford to live in pretty good circumstances, in a good district, if not this particular one.
