Council Moves Benefit Claimants In "Social Cleansing" Measure

Newham Council is attempting to move 500 families on Housing Benefit, to Stoke-on-trent, in a move that has been described as a "social cleansing" measure ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

And greedy bastard landlords are making the homelessness situation worse, by charging higher and higher rents for their vacant properties:

There is gonna be a lot more of this sort of shit going down in the future. When I got my council place, even though I am on disability, the Housing Support Worker was trying to push a 'back to work' agenda.

There have been calls from both Tories and Labour, for looking for a job to be a requirement in the allocation of public housing. This is not the law yet, but it won't be long before they make it so.

Ugh, fuck that. It's bad enough one can't move out of a country without already having a job in your country of destination most of the time... nothing like forcing you down in the mud, apparently.

And then they set up some bloody "home ownership scheme" and try to sell out the council flats and homes, try to redevelop areas into "mixed-income housing", like what the fuck they did to Pepys estate in some disgusting "gentrification" move, or do it like the bloody scum at Glasgow Housing Association, promise to renovate all the council house stock but instead start demolishing it and selling the land to private developers for profit. Vomit down their throats.

Also, my flat used to be owned by the council. But there has been a transfer to an 'housing association'. I don't pay rent, I am on Housing Benefit. But a tenant from the neighbouring block does pay. She has put up a sign in my block for us all to read. The landlord said the rent increase would be small, only a few per cent. But it has gone up over 9 per cent.

And after 2016, I think they have more freedom to charge 'market rents', and I don't think my Housing Benefit will cover the full cost. Plus at the same time, there are all these 'fit for work' tests to worry about as well.

They want the poor out, and the better-off folk in.
